What has our society come to. The United States Flag should be flown prominately in all Government, School, and Patriotic business and household. It is the foundation this country was built on and the very reason I spent 21 years in the Air Force protecting. This country has gotten so lenient that yes after 21 years in the military I feel like a minority as the majority seems to have changed to include illegal aliens and any other walk of life EXCEPT your average white male or female. If there is anyone who does not want to show respect for our United States Flag, let them move to another country and disrespect their flag.

I served in the Air Force and am proud of it. I worked hard to give my family whatever I could. The flag flys at my home and will, day and night. Our men and women in the military deserve the respect they earn every day protecting the lives of all AMERICANS. I resent and angered when I see a foreign country's flag on a home without the American flag. If someone wants to fly the flag of their origin, fine but fly our flag with it. Show some respect for the place where you live and hopefully earn a living. If you don't like this country, why are you here?? If your country is so great, please do us all a favor and go back there. Protest there and dissent their policies and then let me know how life is in their prison because that's where you'll be. Illegal immigrants need to be sent back post-haste. What does the safety of students have to do with having the flag in our schools?? What would the government replace it with....one from a Mideastern country?? You might as well issue prayer rugs so the students can face Mecca 5 times a day. Leave the flag, re-install prayer with an option: pray to your own deity, read, go to the restroom, or nothing at all. There are many different religions and I don't think a small prayer for guidance is going to hurt anyone.

The flag of the United States of America is our title of liberty, the symbol of our freedom. If we give up our flag, we are surrendering a part of the freedom that it represents. I believe in tolerance for other religions and cultures but if they choose to live in this great country, they need to be tolerant of our flag, of prayer in school, of the pledge of allegiance. If I moved to another country, I would expect to adjust to their cultural differences. Not for their country to adjust to mine. It is my prayer that the individual who came up with this idea feel free to move back to their own country if they don’t value the freedom and patriotism expressed by the citizens of the United States of America!

If the hispanics from Mexico or Mexican Americans don't like OUR flag then Im sure they know the route back to Mexico. (And this is coming from a woman that is part hispanic. My father was 100% Mexican that was born in San Diego California. What the hell is going on in our country that this would even take up space in an artical. I agree with alot of the comments on here. If you don't like our flag or our country then go home. I watched a video yesterday of a lady at a protest claiming that we stole Mexico's land from them and we are too white to be Americans. She kept shouting for us to go back to Europe. Well if I remember my history classes correctly the original inhabitants of Mexico were the Incas not "Mexicans". Which was later taken over by the Spaniards from Spain. Maybe they should go back to Spain. The original inhabitants of the "majority" of "America" were the many tribes of what is now called the American Indians. Our ancestors came here from various places (not just Europe) for the freedoms that America was established on. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free" does not stand for "you are invited to come to our country and bash our beliefs, our freedoms and our way of life". Our flag has 50 stars to represent all 50 states and 13 stripes for the original 13 colonies. This flag stands for the many freedoms that alot of Americans take for granted. It's time for us to stand up for the flag and the freedoms that our ancestors came here in pursuit of. Wake up America. We are a very diverse country with many nationalities here. I say "be proud of your heritage, where ever your ancestors or you came from, but do not try to force your heritage or beliefs on other people that enjoy living here and enjoy the freedom of flying their American flag proudly. If you want to post your countries flag do it at your own home. Not everyone wants to see it on display. Maybe the people who are trying to ban the flag should listen carefully to the patriotic songs closely along with the song by Lee Greenwood "I'm proud to be an American". The American Flag is a part of HISTORY. Are we going to randomly start erasing part of our nation's history? The flag not only stands as a symbol of the United States; but also the vast changes that it has endured along with our country. If you erase the flag, a large piece of history, from schools who knows what will be taken away next? I'm fine with people wanting to come here. As long as they do it LEGALLY, and by the book. I know a family who came here twice illegally, only to be deported both times. They finally re-applied to come legally, and now are all US citizens. They fly an American flag, and are happy to call themselves AMERICANS. They recognize Mexican holidays, and still speak Spanish primarily between themselves, but they consider themselves AMERICANS. 100 years ago, when people were streaming off of boats, coming through Ellis Island(like my great-grandparents did) looking for a new start, and a new life, they WANTED to become AMERICANS. They still recognized their heritage, but they assumed the ways and traditions of things here in the United States.
If all immigrants followed the law, we wouldn't have a problem. My mother is a LEGAL immigrant(but not citizen). She came here legally, and still re-activates her green card when she's supposed to. She might become a citizen one day, but she calls herself an "American", even though she was born in the UK.

Are you kidding me?!?!?! I already think this country has gone far enough to try and accommodate enough immigrants in this country by not saying the pledge of allegiance in schools anymore, making sure that we are accommodating everyone else's beliefs instead of making sure this country still stands upon the beliefs it was created upon, sounds pretty lame to me. What America is too nice to stand up for what the country was built upon. The American flag is a symbol of who we are and that flag stands for our freedom and our country. We are the United States of America, why is the thought of getting rid of the American flag even a thought. I just know we are in deeper than we know right now.
The American flag should be displayed in schools, in government buildings, in schools, in lapels, flying high over ALL our military bases all over the world -- wherever Americans are, that is where our flag should be. It is a source of pride to ALL AMERICAN PATRIOTS with no apologies.God Bless America.

This is getting very old; if people want to come to America they need to respect our Flag, In God We Trust, and a genuine "work ethic". I would not even think of going to another country and expect the flag to be removed because of my presence. If our flag, In God We Trust and making your own living is offensive maybe they should go back to their original country and try to change that.

I am deeply offended by the very question of whether or not the American Flag should be displayed anywhere in the US, let alone in our nations schools!! This IS the United States of America and our Nations Flag is to be honored, and something to proudly hold high as a symbol of our freedom and a reminder of the men and women who have fought for, given their lives for, and continue to fight to keep that freedom for all of us--including all the illegal aliens!! It offends me to not have my nations flag flying/posted as it should be in every public building in the United States of America.

This question is appalling and ridiculous. This is America and we should cherish and honor the rights we have here - and fly the American Flag with reverence and pride. Some of our citizens (and non-citizens - guests) are sinking so low it is frightening. Do they not know what we have here in this great country? I can't believe such a question has even been asked in the USA. This shows just how far down the scale this country has fallen. I remember a time when we were trying to prepare our students to be the best especially in science and technology. I believe Japan was ahead of us at the time and we were striving to improve our education. Today our students are no where close to the top in education, and now we have to answer questions on whether we want our flag. I want my country back!!!

I am starting to wonder what country I am living in. Where is the pride of being an American and all it stands for??? In grade school, we used to stand up with our hands on our hearts and face the flag and say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning. Now many in this country want to be "politically correct". I think saying the Pledge of Allegiance is being "politically correct" for an American. If you don't like the American way, then take the next plane or boat and get out!!

What is wrong with people? Our men are overseas fighting for the American flag and a lot of them are dying. We always seem to want to please someone else instead of standing up for ourselves. It is a pity that a question concerning the display of our flag in public places such as a school must even merit a vote. No other country in the world would even consider such an assinine action. Unfortunately our constitution allows some very damaging ideals to take place in the United States. We all know that our founding fathers would not advocate this type of extremism. To allow immigrants to insult our country is lunacy! We have become too "soft" and do NOT need to go to the Multi-Culturism that has failed in other countries. Minority cultures in other major countries have been allowed to take over and the culture of the "mother country" has become diluted. We can welcome immigrants but require they learn English, get a public education and become contributing American Citizens; not come here, use our Welfare monies, not hold a job, and then demand we take down our own flag! And then they assume they can raise their former country's flag in its place????
We adults must demand RESPECT for our country's symbols (flag, national anthem, historic places, elected officials, law enforcement, etc.) from ANYONE WANTING TO COME TO AMERICA.
But we must show respect for ourselves: (1) All phone messages should ONLY ask the caller to "press one" for any language other than English; Englist must be assumed to be our mother tongue and all immigrants must be required to speak it in public, using correct grammer. (2) Any desecration of country's symbols should come with some consequence, (e.g. community service!) (3) We must not allow any special interest groups to be provided specific privileges, such as special holidays from work (require they use their annual leave), or to stage religious stand ins in a public city area (they are free to worship in their own places of worship).
This "political correctness" - afraid to offend these groups - ends up with us giving away our self-respect as a whole country. (4) We show self respect by insisting that newcomers assimilate into OUR culture, not cave in to their cultureal demands for special treatment, even to such an extent that they might try to have our government add rules just for their culture's demands.
This is truly "food for thought" as we come closer to another Presidential election.......

These traits are in the minds of the people, not on paper or locked away in a vault. This is how a people become a nation. The Flag, The Eagle, The Washington Monument, etc. are symbolic of the traits that built and sustained this nation. The Flag goes beyond all the other symbols because it has the blood of the patriots and the blood of all the Veterans (modern day patriots) that have fought for this country. I am one of those Veterans that would still stand up for MY FLAG. I would still die for the principals and values embodied in MY FLAG. I am certain there are a million Veterans that would stand beside me and defend OLD GLORY again.

What has our society come to. The United States Flag should be flown prominately in all Government, School, and Patriotic business and household. I served in the Air Force and am proud of it. I worked hard to give my family whatever I could. The flag flys at my home and will, day and night. What does the safety of students have to do with having the flag in our schools?? What would the government replace it with....one from a Mideastern country?? You might as well issue prayer rugs so the students can face Mecca 5 times a day. If they are so proud of their country, they are free to go back anytime. The main reason they come is to get the _Free Stuff___________, that we taxpayers supply. I spent 1 year in Okinawa in 1968 as a young 22yr old. When I got back and remembering how some act about the Flag, I said I think every person should spend 1 yrear in another country and then they would appreciate the US. The would LOVE the US.

I watched a video yesterday of a lady at a protest claiming that we stole Mexico's land from them and we are too white to be Americans. She kept shouting for us to go back to Europe. Well if I remember my history classes correctly the original inhabitants of Mexico were the Incas not "Mexicans". Which was later taken over by the Spaniards from Spain. Maybe they should go back to Spain. The original inhabitants of the "majority" of "America" were the many tribes of what is now called the American Indians. Our ancestors came here from various places (not just Europe) for the freedoms that America was established on. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free" does not stand for "you are invited to come to our country and bash our beliefs, our freedoms and our way of life". Our flag has 50 stars to represent all 50 states and 13 stripes for the original 13 colonies. This flag stands for the many freedoms that alot of Americans take for granted. It's time for us to stand up for the flag and the freedoms that our ancestors came here in pursuit of. Wake up America. We are a very diverse country with many nationalities here. I say "be proud of your heritage, where ever your ancestors or you came from, but do not try to force your heritage or beliefs on other people that enjoy living here and enjoy the freedom of flying their American flag proudly. The American Flag is a part of HISTORY. Are we going to randomly start erasing part of our nation's history? The flag not only stands as a symbol of the United States; but also the vast changes that it has endured along with our country. If you erase the flag, a large piece of history, from schools who knows what will be taken away next? We are already losing music, theatre, sports and field trips due to budget cuts; and now we are working towards ousting core subject areas? I'm fine with people wanting to come here. As long as they do it LEGALLY, and by the book. I know a family who came here twice illegally, only to be deported both times. They finally re-applied to come legally, and now are all US citizens. They fly an American flag, and are happy to call themselves AMERICANS. They recognize Mexican holidays, and still speak Spanish primarily between themselves, but they consider themselves AMERICANS. 100 years ago, when people were streaming off of boats, coming through Ellis Island(like my great-grandparents did) looking for a new start, and a new life, they WANTED to become AMERICANS. They still recognized their heritage, but they assumed the ways and traditions of things here in the United States.
If all immigrants followed the law, we wouldn't have a problem. My mother is a LEGAL immigrant(but not citizen). She came here legally, and still re-activates her green card when she's supposed to. She might become a citizen one day, but she calls herself an "American", even though she was born in the UK.

As a Mexican/American and a Viet Nam veteran, I am appalled that anyone would entertain the thought of removing a symbol of freedom that I fought for, from schools, it is beyond my understanding. Because you are an illegal alien, living here in the USofA, does not give you the right to infringe your beliefs upon we Americans. I am so sick and tired of the minority trying to take over for the majority. And the minority unfortunately consist of a lot of illegal people in this country. They should have no opinion. I already think this country has gone far enough to try and accommodate enough immigrants in this country by not saying the pledge of allegiance in schools anymore, making sure that we are accommodating everyone else's beliefs instead of making sure this country still stands upon the beliefs it was created upon, sounds pretty lame to me. I am deeply offended by the very question of whether or not the American Flag should be displayed anywhere in the US, let alone in our nations schools!! This IS the United States of America and our Nations Flag is to be honored, and something to proudly hold high as a symbol of our freedom and a reminder of the men and women who have fought for, given their lives for, and continue to fight to keep that freedom for all of us--including all the illegal aliens!! I can't believe such a question has even been asked in the USA. This shows just how far down the scale this country has fallen. I remember a time when we were trying to prepare our students to be the best especially in science and technology. I believe Japan was ahead of us at the time and we were striving to improve our education. Today our students are no where close to the top in education, and now we have to answer questions on whether we want our flag. I want my country back!!!

I don’t remember reading anything saying that the Mexican flag should be banned in order to avoid ‘inflaming’ American students. Can the Chinese/Korean/Russian/etc flags still be flown? Or is it only the American flag that cannot be flown in America? If the school administration kowtows’ to these insane demands would the Puerto Rican flag be next to be banned?

To allow immigrants to insult our country is lunacy! We have become too "soft" and do NOT need to go to the Multi-Culturism that has failed in other countries. Minority cultures in other major countries have been allowed to take over and the culture of the "mother country" has become diluted. We can welcome immigrants but require they learn English, get a public education and become contributing American Citizens; not come here, use our Welfare monies, not hold a job, and then demand we take down our own flag! And then they assume they can raise their former country's flag in its place????
We adults must demand RESPECT for our country's symbols (flag, national anthem, historic places, elected officials, law enforcement, etc.) from ANYONE WANTING TO COME TO AMERICA.
But we must show respect for ourselves: (1) All phone messages should ONLY ask the caller to "press one" for any language other than English; Englist must be assumed to be our mother tongue and all immigrants must be required to speak it in public, using correct grammer. (2) Any desecration of country's symbols should come with some consequence, (e.g. community service!) (3) We must not allow any special interest groups to be provided specific privileges, such as special holidays from work (require they use their annual leave), or to stage religious stand ins in a public city area (they are free to worship in their own places of worship).
This "political correctness" - afraid to offend these groups - ends up with us giving away our self-respect as a whole country. (4) We show self respect by insisting that newcomers assimilate into OUR culture, not cave in to their cultureal demands for special treatment, even to such an extent that they might try to have our government add rules just for their culture's demands.
This is truly "food for thought" as we come closer to another Presidential election.......
This is totally ridiculous, for an American, to even think about asking this question! The Nation was founded on principals and values. These traits are in the minds of the people, not on paper or locked away in a vault. This is how a people become a nation. The Flag, The Eagle, The Washington Monument, etc. are symbolic of the traits that built and sustained this nation. The Flag goes beyond all the other symbols because it has the blood of the patriots and the blood of all the Veterans (modern day patriots) that have fought for this country. I am one of those Veterans that would still stand up for MY FLAG. I would still die for the principals and values embodied in MY FLAG. I am certain there are a million Veterans that would stand beside me and defend OLD GLORY again.
