I recently put a 120GB OCZ Vertex 2 in my MBP 15", and while it was pretty expensive, the speed boost has been awesome. With the current prices, I would never put an SSD in a desktop computer because all you really get is a speed improvement. In a laptop, you get a bigger speed improvement (from a 5400RPM drive), less vibration, less heat, longer battery life, etc.
Hopefully prices drop enough that a 500GB SSD will be $350, rather than almost $2,000 (for the 480GB Vertex 2).
