It seems like a good guess that the new MacBook Airs' lack of an optical drive foreshadows the removal of the drive in other future Macs. Your take?
Optical drives are dead to me
By the time Apple eliminates them everywhere, it'll be fine
I still want optical drives in my computers and expect that to be true for quite a while
