Great site, have just spent lots of time getting lost in all this info.
Rafe - can you do a poll on how many people like Microsoft Project? Lots of people use it I can see but I found it clumsy, visually unattractive, just not user friendly. I mean, I could use it but it wasn't exactly making it easy or enjoyable. Sometimes I spend a lot of time looking through multiple screens trying to match up data. What does everyone else think?
I appreciate the benifits of online web based software services, but I prefer my software to be local and our data to be in our server backed up both in and off site for security and rdundancy reasons.
We have experienced downtime from lack of intermittent internet access and have been able to work off line without access to the net from our supposedly reliable internet provider. I would be very worried about external disasters affecting online access to our software and our data.
We use Gant Charts as part of our Disaster Response Management Software and it is very useful. Developing, assigning, and monitoring tasks are what Project and Disaster Managing is all about. Organizing personnel and equipment is essential for success and maintaining cost effectiveness. Now we have options of software for our product, (Coordinated NIMS Incident Planner or CNIP). Thanks for the information.
Project management is crying out for web-based collaboration. But what about the other aspects of data and information knowledge workers need to incorporate into the work process? Moving a knowledge-based organization towards the Kaizen goal of continuous improvement calls for integrated tools. The software-as-a-service model is an excellent value for small-to-medium (SME) organizations who want the same tools as the big boys, but at a per-seat or transaction-based price.

Rafe,
This is an awesome survey! I'm working with a client to help make the internet a better place for project managers and project management training.
Would you, or anyone else, mind taking a super quick 5 second survey? Bet it won't take more than :30.
Thanks so much!

Thanks for the review and comments. When I need to use a PM software package that is web-based I have a few options to choose from now.
