Do you smell your food before eating it?

Never, it is unethical on your table manners. Insulting to your host if you are invited to eat.

I used to travel abroad quite a bit, so if it's something new, I'll smell it. I'll also smell new ingredients that I'm unfamiliar with to see if it's something I can play with, as a closet foodie. It's also a bit of a game for me to see if I can guess what's in the dish.

I have always smelled my food, My grandmother used to bawl me out for it. I have since learned that I have food sensitivities and am allergic to some foods. They smell bad to me, so I don't eat them. Perhaps it is the body's defense mechanism.
