I don't believe cheerleading is too dangerous. It has it's risks just as any other sport. now that it has finally received it's proper recognition, it will come under scrutiny. Even though the coaches and cheer participants have trained and participated for years with spirit and dedication. With the proper training, safety and supervision, both coaches and the cheerleaders can continue to enjoy cheerleading for the sport it has always been for us. I was a cheerleader and I currently coach cheer for Pop Warner. Our athletes are tough, dedicated and full of spirit. I sincerely hope this new recognition does not turn into a head hunt for the sport that these participants have known and loved for years, when all we ever wanted was to be recognized for the hard work and dedication we do on and off the field. If Cheer is "too Dangerous" then so is Gymnastics, ballet, and dance....I will wait while you ponder the absurdity.... I do not believe I have seen a question more absurd in years.

If the girls are trained the right way by coaches that have been trained the right way, I don't think it is "too dangerous". My daughter cheered at the high school level for 3 years and saw her share of bumped heads and twisted ankles. These girls start training in July and cheer through March competitions. I don't think it is any more "dangerous" than being on the football field. You are going to see injuries in any sport. If the girls are trained properly, both physically and mentally, the number of injuries should be low. To be a cheerleader you have to be dedicated to the sport and work hard so as not to injure yourself or someone else.
