This poll is related to today’s lead article regarding
campus parties. However in that lead article, nothing is
mentioned about the real costs to county taxpayers of
Dutchess Community College (DCC). The recently
built DCC 130,000 sq.ft. dormitory, for a 2 year school,
is costing taxpayers millions in community related
expenses (fire, police, social services) and should be
passed on to the Albany/SUNY system for oversight.

The landlords AND students should be held responsible. It's one thing to party but when they get out of control (Which is often the case) it's time to put the screws to these kids and landlords.

Landlords should absolutely be held accountable for nuisance parties. Let's be honest, before anyone is actually held accountable, there has been a problem several times already. If the police are not enough of a deterrent, the threat of eviction due to the town levying penalties against the property owner may help. If I were a landlord I'd work it right into the lease and include a surcharge for fines due to tenant activity so that in the event of a fine, I actually profit, then after a few I'd evict. There has to be some accountability for the landlords who aren't in the area, what do they care about the neighborhood....they're not in it like the people nearby who have been for years. When you purchase, or have purchased decades ago, a home you want safety, peace and a place for your family. When you have careless landlords, you get loud late nights property damage and drunken idiots urinating on your property....just where I want to raise my family.

Landlords should be held responsible for doing background checks on their tenants, unless it's section 8 or drug dealers, them they should be financially responsible.
