It is sad that Malta sites are being built and expanded in Albany when you have a large site in East Fishkill that is empty and an entire site which are known a the "600" buildings that are sitting empty not being utilized. Hence it would help the Dutchess county by making it more appealing to buy homes and live in it would also help current and future workers who have to travel at least 1 or more hours for work in order to provide for their families it would create jobs where they are really needed and not have these perfectly good buildings used. I just don't get it.

IBM will add jobs elsewhere while simultaneously laying off in Dutchess. IBM Research is hiring down in Yorktown Heights from what I see on the job boards, mostly applied research (Smarter Planet, Watson analytics, etc) projects. I think this re-balancing of the workforce works against Dutchess County.
Growing up in the 70s & 80s, nearly every kid I knew had a parent who worked for IBM. Not so today. They probably work downstate in Westchester or NYC. We went from IBM company towns to becoming mostly a bedroom community for NYC and suburban jobs. Politicians during IBM's heyday of peak employment were naive, lazy and possibly stupid to not realize they should have done more to diversify the local economy. Of course hindsight is 20/20, but I suggest those who want to stay employed apply for the advertised jobs at GlobalFoundries and move to Saratoga County. Dutchess really doesn't have a future.
