Driving 30 miles an hour on Old Glenham road a deer ran out from behind a passing car and landed on my hood. I had no time for reaction other to slam on the brakes. The deer got up and ran off into the woods. Over 2000 in damage and still to this day I am vigilant but have come close a few more times. We need to curb the population.

If you see a deer by the side of the road or one ran and anotger is behind, then HONK the horn. They hear it and run away.

Debby, not all stories need to highlight what is wrong with the world as a whole, sometimes local issues matter too. I live in Northern Dutchess and have hit 2 deer in my life. When you drive on roads that have speed limits of 55 hitting a deer can cause fatalities so don't dismiss it like it's a joke. I was fortunate enough to have only minor damage.

I live in the City of Poughkeepsie. I have lived here for nearly 50 years, the deer population has exploded. I live on a relatively quiet street, and have seen a herd of about 7 deer nearby. Cars zip through the side street by my house, it's just a matter of time before one strikes a deer, and it's my understanding that the highway department won't post a warning sign until that happens.
