juanita, you are in fact the one that has no clue about country music if you think that scotty IS Country music for TODAY. I listen to country music almost exclusively nowadays and the junk that he likes to sing is stuff that fits in the country genre about 20 or 30 years ago. It's an embarrassment to true country artists. He can take a perfectly good country song, written within the last year or so, and slow it down, give it a long, ugly drawl, and lower the key so that his very limited range can hit the notes (sometimes), and all the squirrels will fall asleep and drop from the trees. Maybe that's how they go hunting where he's from, who knows. But to say Haley is "hard on the ears" and should have been sent home only tells me that you are a very elderly woman whose pacemaker may be failing and you're scared that she'll get your blood pumping a little too hard. Here's a tip, turn your hearing aid down when she sings, because unlike Scotty and Lauren, she's got power in her voice. You don't have to sit next to the TV with your head sideways to hear her. While you think about that, I'll be listening to my new favorite version of "Benny and the Jets."

Haley should have been sent home she is really hard on the ears.I love Scotty a true country t
singer. Lauren is sweet. I was hoping for a James /Scotty final. I am amazed at the comments
there are so many that havent a clue when it comes to country music. Scotty and James will
be offered big contracts regardless of the results

I was hoping for a Haley/James finale and now Scotty has to go. Btw I've been with Team Haley all the time.

something was wrong with idol's answering system which might have cost james to lose votes. I tried dialing 18664365701 and several times and could not get through. It was just a dead silence or busy. It wasn't until I dialed 1866-4365705 that I got through. I wonder if this happened to other voters and this cost James to lose votes. He hardley ever got a bad review from judges. It doesn' make sense.

Haley's my favourite, but I'm sad that James is going because I always enjoyed watching him - he brought some excitment to the stage & seemed to try hard each week.

Lauren has been boring and predictable each week. She sings too many ballads and doesn't bring much edginess/fiestiness/difference or true emotional connection to her songs. HOWEVER her second song this week was great, I loved the 'attitude' she brought! She reminded me of Allison Iraheta & Didi Benami ( 'Don't Play with Fire'). That second song Lauren sang is my favourite performance of hers this Season and is enough to make me think that she might deserve to be in the Top Three (even though I'm sad to see James go). I hope we see more of that side of Lauren next week. I LOVED Haley's second song this week, too, for similar reasons... it's edginess, danger & drama :)

As a side-note, I viewed James as a very descent person until tonight when he was voted off. What did he actually mean by "I've brought so much to Idol that's never been done before?" Is he that conceited that he needed to say that? Honestly, the only thing I can think of that he's brought to the Idol stage that's never been done before is a serious handicap. And I applaud him for making it as far as he did with his disorder, however, thinking that he "brought metal" to the Idol stage (as I'm sure that's what he was referring to since he said - again - "give metal a chance") is a severe understatement. What this guy performed was in no way, shape, or form "metal." He sang washed up, oversung 80's classic rock...not metal. If he'd busted out into some Pantera, I would say he was right (about bringing "metal" to Idol), but he didn't. Since when is "Don't Stop Believing" metal? It's not. You can dress a dog in a duck suit, but he still won't quack. So, James, you CAN stop believing now. Stop believing the lie that you've been telling yourself all these years that you're a hardcore metal singer, and stop believing that you brought ANYTHING original to Idol. It's all been done, and most of the songs you sang have been performed at numerous karaoke bars in my home town. One other thing you CAN take credit for, though: the judges have never kissed someone's butt all season for absolutely nothing as much as they did for you.

"The right one" is sort of a broad statement. I think there could have been several "right" outcomes tonight:

First, the outcome that DID happen - James got sent home because people were tired of his strong starts, followed by his screeching and never being able to find the pitch again after that.

A second "right" outcome - Lauren could have been sent home because she's not progressed as much as anyone else and continues to bore audiences (minus the "out of breath, panting for air" song every now and again). Not to mention the fact that she's so unprepared for the music industry that it's ridiculous to fathom her ever winning this thing. The mere thought of being in the bottom 2 ONE TIME brought her to tears. What's she going to do when she faces real criticism? Stop recording her album to go sob somewhere? Being coddled as a child has done her absolutely no favors, and she needs to learn to accept that every once in a while, someone IS going to be better than her at something. She hasn't yet, but I predict she will.

The third "right" option - Scotty could have went home because he is the ultimate boring, corn-ball, hokey country singer. He adds absolutely nothing new to the music scene except possibly twitching more than James ever did on purpose. By the way, I love country music, but this guy just gets under my skin. He may have votes from the south, home of country music, but if they were true to themselves, they'd realize that this guy gives a bad name to country, bringing it back several generations every time he sings. It's like a hard core rocker jumping on stage singing Bill Haley's "Rock Around the Clock" and everyone taking it seriously. "Rock Around the Clock" had it's day, it was "rock and roll" in it's time, and that time passed. Now it's corny music you only play at high school "soc hop" dances where everyone comes in poodle skirts and rolled up jeans with an over-sized black comb in their back pockets. It's a joke. As is Scotty's style of country music. Real cowboys don't sing that garbage anymore, because they aren't hiding from natives and roasting squirrel over a campfire. The end.

The only outcome that would have proven Idol's ignorance is if Haley went home. Week after week, she's shown nothing but improvement, her voice can hold it's own against (dare I say) anyone in this country...ever...and she takes a beating week after week from the "judges" and just "takes" it. Last night's "talking back" was well overdue for her, and I don't blame her one bit. The favoritism by Randy has been shown all season, and she has had the poise and dignity to listen to all of his "trash talking" and take it in stride. Last night the contestants were supposed to sing a song that inspired THEM. Then Randy and JLo want to tell her that they didn't think it was the right song for her. Seriously? So now you two have the authority to tell people what they can be inspired by? Didn't realize that, mein furers. Next time, she'll know to ask. Even the extent that she "back-talked" them wasn't enough, in my opinion. I would have been much harsher than "I know, you already said that," and "That wasn't very nice." I feel she kept it under control a lot better than most. Scotty probably would have walked off stage if that'd happened to him, and Lauren and James would have no-doubtedly bawled their eyes out. So, as if you all haven't guessed yet, my pick for the season is Haley, due to her unmatched talent, unique voice, amazing breath control, keeping her cool under harsh fire, and of course for being completely gorgeous and looking into the camera all sultry and sexy every time it points towards her.

So, next week, Scotty should go, but won't because he's "the machine." Lauren is probably in trouble with country votes being split. Haley is still not in the clear, even with her new-found support unless everyone votes their butts off (judging by twitter, James fans want to vote for Lauren next week to get Haley kic

You can count on one hand the number of American Idol winners that have succeeded. It takes talent, maturity and a vision towards a musical career to truly be successful at this reality show. Lauren and Hayley are cute, can sing but are neither are mature or have a musical vision. They just won their highschool talent contest or a karokoke sing-off! The judges, once again, must be disappointed with the voter's "popularity" choice. James, Casey and Scotty have what it takes - an abundance of musical talent, maturity beyond their years and a vision of what they will record AND sell in large numbers - because I believe these three men will be the ones we will remember from this season. And they should and will get recording contracts!

erin's right....it should have been scotty. and it should have been a james/haley finale.

i was so excited for haley but so let down when james went home. mixed emotions.

  • LAMusic - 13 years ago

Happy that 2 females in top 3. I would have preferred Scotty to go before Durbin. I won 20+ pts in the pool though. Now I'm hoping for Haley and Lauren to be final 2.

    It should have been Scotty.
