Could you kill an animal for food?

I am a college-educated IT professional. I use my rural yard as hobby farm to raise ducks, chickens, rabbits and goats. I estimate that about 80-90% of the meat and 100% of the eggs on my table comes from my efforts. You have no idea how much better the meat and eggs taste when all of it is non-medicated, grass fed and truly free-range.

I applaud Zuckerberg and his experiment. I wish I could afford his fru-fru chef though :-)

It would have to depend on the type of animal, and the demeanor of the animal. If its a horse; NOT gonna happen, if its an angry cat, PERHAPS. If it were a small whining, crying, bitching, child; Mmmmmmmm, I like mine RARE.

When I was 18 I moved to the country with my in-laws and family. We raised chickens, rabbits and a hog.We slaughtered them all at different intervals to fill up the freezer and feed the families of all of the children and their children. You learn to clean and cook them properly, not to mention that the fresh food was always delicious.

If he's doing something like this....he must be getting bored. He should be spending his millions sending food to the hungry....BUT if that is what he wants to do, who cares?

What is the point of this pointless poll?
Whose dog are running in this hunt?

  • Pleo - 13 years ago

I used to hunt and kill my own food. But I haven't for about 12 years and I am a vegetarian now.

Where is the answer 'Yes'? The question is hypothetical. Terrible answer choices!!! C'mon CNN!!!

  • Mark - 13 years ago

Your poll is missing an obvious option. While I did it decades ago, I have done it. "I already do" represents a present tense. "I have in the past, but not recently" should have an option -- probably thousands of farm kids have done it, but left the farm so don't do it now.

The point might be, if the billionaire lost all his money in an economic catastrophe he would be fine hunting on his land. But the fact is, that would not work, there are way too many people for that, the movie Postman comes to mind, without the radiation. I am sure Ted Nugent is prepared!

The general public has become so distanced from how food animals are raised that they could not survive if farmers decided to take a week off. I beg you, please take a few minutes and visit
www.feedstuffsfo odlink.com/ME2/Default.asp (without the spaces). The hormone used in feedlot MALE beef cattle is estrogen, and it is in such low doses that it is lower than the same FEMALE beef cattle on that feedlot. There is less estrogen in a small steak than there is in a 3 oz. serving of cabbage! Animal rights activist groups with their multi-million dollar budgets have flooded the media with propoganda intended to encourage people to stop eating meat. Please spend a few minutes researching the TRUTH. Visit a farm today. Zuckerberg made a decision to stop digesting the utter garbage that vegans are force feeding us. You want to really enjoy a steak? There are many many farms that will custom-raise beef for you (and other animals too). They don't have to be organic - as a matter of fact, more food-borne illnesses arise from organic practices than from those using modern farming methods. Do some research, I beg you. It's easy to believe what is put in front of you by groups like PETA and the Humane Society of the United States - it's easy to listen to people babble that beef cattle stand knee deep in their own waste - it takes just a little time to visit farms, search out blogs by real farmers advocating their positive wellness practices for food animals, and read ag-industry websites and magazines. Take the time and you will feel so much better about the food you eat!

Come on, chicken, cow, duck and buffalo and other animal are here in this world, so that man can eat and enojoy it. Remember, human have large intestine and small intestine. small intestine for eating vegetable and large intestine for eating chicken, cow etc. cow, deer types of animals have small intest... and tiger, lion types of animals have large intest.. anywayyyy bs poll.....

No clue how to properly field clean an animal.

  • vegetarian - 13 years ago

    where's the option for vegetarians?
    lame poll.

  • Mike - 13 years ago

No I wouldn't... because I'm a vegetarian. Well possibly if desperate... but I'd certainly exhaust all other available options first. I do find it strange though that that only half answer either already do or that they should try. Most of the other half already slaughter animals by proxy... how is doing it themselves any different?

How about a simple YES answer? What is this, a FAUX News poll?

  • Samaritan - 13 years ago

What is all the fuss about?

Dollars to donuts, the steak you buy this weekend will have spent it's entire life standing knee high in it's own waste, eating hormone enhanced feed. ***bleccccckkkkk*

Check out the movie Food In., you will never look at what you put into your mouth the same again!

What a stupid poll. Where's the answer "yes?" It simply says "could you." CNN is retarded.
