At what age do you think your father should begin getting checked for prostate cancer?

if you wait until you have prostate symptoms to make the diagnosis of prostate cancer then you have waited too late. sreening everyone at age 40 will result in a whole bunch of negative PSA's and biopsies that are negative. but what do we do with the montgomery gentry's of the world...just let then fall through the cracks. it is not what i'd recommend for your father. i like the aua's recommendation of starting at age 40 and if the psa is real low, maybe check every other year or so, with a heightened awareness of the risk factors, i.e. black or family history. sounds reasonable to me! jm
