BYU has phenominal depth at almost every position...and this year the wealth of talent goes much deeper than the first string...something that really hasn't ever happened before for BYU...at least not across the board like it is this year. All but one position on the offensive line will have a return starter from last years freshman/sophmore class that will continue the great improvement they experienced in the 2nd half of last season. The two notable Seniors on this Senior team are Preseason All American OL Matt Reynolds and WR McKay Jacobson...both of who are expected to have great seasons. The biggest and probably the most critical change that was made was Mendenhall's shakeup of the coaching staff...especially the long needed change at the Offensive Coordinator slot. BYU"s weakest link has always been thier Defensive secondary...it still will be... but the difference in how much better the recruiting has gotten in the defensive backfield will this year become evident and will only get better as the program progresses. This is not a fluke year. BYU recruiting has definitely gotten all cylanders firing in sincranization . The class of of 2010 was probably the best recruiting class ever and right now the class of 2012 is looking to surpass that. 2011 was iself... better than average...but nothing like what 2012 is shaping up to be. The depth all across the board is really starting to stack up for the program.

I like Notre Dame's chances to have a breakthrough year. The Irish haven't lacked talent during the last decade. They have lacked direction and fundamental discipline, especially on the D-Side of the ball. They have played too much as if they thought ND on the jersey automatically meant "Never Defeated." As they get back to Lou Holtz style coaching, they will be fine.

BYU is not that difficult to figure out. It has SEC caliber talent back , half an SEC like schedule with some pretty tough road games, and then half of Boise State's old gig...they will be really really good and a lot of fun to watch as well. They could run the table with their talent and the way they match up against all their opponents this year even with the difficult road schedule.

Navy is...well, Navy and they will run over almost everyone, work the closk and try to hold enough teams to fewer than 3 TD's to have another great year. If Army can do likewise then the three service academies may all have great years and that would be wonderful.

In a time when big-name programs are being exposed as frauds (Ohio State, Auburn, USC, North Carolina, Georgia Tech)...it is wonderful to see FIVE reliable programs that play by the rules and win (Air Force, Army, BYU, Navy and ND).
