@Eli Mitchell - You can check out the smashmag article on Node.js:

    Scroll down to "Introducing Node.js".

With all this hype about node.js, I still haven't found a good, clear article that really explains what it is and what it does and how to use it. Any recommendations?

Unfortunately , we have clients who are not adventurous nor willing to expand their budget for different solutions. They're running out of an ISP server account that just began supporting PHP 5 without many of the most useful extensions and we no access other than FTP for crying out loud.

In short, we feel constrained to the limitations of our clients' budgets to try out new solutions. We gotta get different or better clients. Personally, I'd love to try to develop a Rails site and as well as other things. Also, I don't know that much about node.js to know whether I could've already been using it because I haven't had time. I've heard so much about it and I'm always open to new technologies.
