Should the Oilers have traded Ales Hemsky just like they did Dustin Penner?

    David,

Your obsession for Hemsky is beyond stats.......he was carrying RNH and Hall, what an overstatement.

    Johnyoil.......said it best!

David I couldn’t disagree more, the Hemsky experiment, the dream has failed. Personally I do not care about his injury prone career nor do I care about his stats.
If somewhat decent stats where the key to building a winning team the Rangers would have been a dynasty what with the way they signed players with decent stats and bigger salary
but still missed the playoffs more than they made it. A winning team, hockey for that matter is more about the heart, soul, the intangibles that there are no stats for. I feel you are holding on
to the dream of another ’06 run David, a dream that will not be repeated with Hemsky part of this team. Sure Hemsky along with Smyth, Pronger, Rollie where key to that run but even the players
said first it was the brilliant coaching of MacT and staff and the intangible “team spirit” they had that was responsible for that incredible run. The players bought into the coaching staff, believed in themselves and each other. It was the heart that almost gave us the cup that year, not stats.
In my opinion the intangible things Hemsky brings to the Oilers are more negative than positive, a bad influence on the kids, our stars of tomorrow, some stars already today.
He is the last on ice to practice and first to leave, his annoying habit of looking for a TSN HON passing play rather than shoot is legendary,
and the main reason the Oiler PP has been so bad the last few years. I would also say that when Hemsky is in the line up the Oil are a different team, not nearly as aggressive nor as ready to go for the “ugly” goal.
We certainly don’t get as many shoots on goal when the Hemsky is playing. Watch the Sedins, despite all their talent and skill a good many of their points come from just throwing the puck on net
and getting a “ugly” goal, not our Hemsky – nope he has to try the Gretsky like impossible pass when faced with a open net.
It is time to say thanks but it is time to move on to Hemsky and get some defensive help now. We have all the offensive talent we need right now, give the kids Hemsky’s PP and regular ice time and I say no one will miss his points no matter what the stats may say.
It is time to let go of dreams of hockey glory past on the back of Hemsky, it will never happen, the future is now and it’s time to live it.

omsg, hemsky has been on the oilers 4 like 8 years now, and is a great and loyal player. yea ok i agree that hes like made of glass, but edmonton fans who hav actuly paid any attention 2 him know that he always makes up for the games that hes gone in. besides shawn horcoff, hemmer is the 2nd longest serving oiler still on this team. hes got like awesome skills and the specail thing abt him is hes always thinks pass first b4 shoot. and yes once again hes an injury prone, but hes also pretty tough when has it been that hemsky is hurt and stays on the ice needing like a gazillion people around him? he always gets up himself and skates off. and he is SUCH an exciting player 2 watch. soo plz b4 saying he deserves 2 b traded, think it over and of his postives and wat he has brought 2 the team, that no other player could possibly even replace b4 we throw him 2 the wolves :)

An Oilogosphere member would disagree with this, as he posted a blog regarding Staples blog here: http://www.oilogosphere.com/blog/trade-hemsky-no-way-not-last-winter-at-the-deadline-not-last-june-and-not-now-part-2

I left my comments there. Can't say I agree with you Staples. Not one bit.

Yeah, he is great alright. Great when he is actually playing. That is the rub. The guy is plagued with injuries. If he is out for a better part of the season again, damaged goods.
