I'll wait til the s3 appears. I had registered a pre order for this but the spec leaves me wondering how it perform with next years more hungry apps and games. I have the s2 so will wait.

I was impressed by a lot, however the size of the screen makes me apprehensive. Once they can fit that resolution into a 4" screen, I'm totally hooked. I don't care if my eyes can't tell the difference - my thumbs can only stretch so far. Plus, when I'm playing games, I hold my phone closer than 12-14", so I'd need the extra density anyway.

The GPU and camera sensor are the other spots that could have been slightly better. Still, I was hoping for an upgrade-worthy phone over my Nexus One, so I am not disappointed.

near perfect, the only other thing I would have liked would have been an sd card slot, but I wasn't expecting it since the nexus s didn't have one either.
but cameras are another area where people get mislead. a higher megapixel camera doesn't mean better pictures, it only means larger, images with more pixels. but the picture quality on this device is really good.
unless you need to a large image for some reason, you really don't need more megapixels, most of you are only going to twitpic/facebook/G+ your images, in which case they'll be scaled down whenever somebodies viewing from the browser anyway.

unless you're a photographer or something and you need to print an image afterwards, 5 megapixels is always enough, even though the consumer doesn't understand what the term means.

and btw: if you're in any kind of situation where megapixels matter, I would really hope you aren't photographing with your cell phone, whether that phone be this one or the Iphone4s.

The GPU is what is disappointing. The rest is just par. I don't believe the verdict is in for the (non-)removable battery yet, but the indications are that it IS removable. The lack of an SD card slot is only mildly annoying. Those who are worried about having their backups need to spend a few seconds on google and they will see that it is separate partitions so you don't need to worry about losing backups on a wipe. Plenty of other phones and tablets don't have an SD card.

For me, I just need to decide if ICS, 4.6" AMOLED, and fast camera snaps trump the 2 year old GPU choice. The battery is big for me, but all indications are that it will be removable, which in my opinion is a must on a 4G device.

I wish there was another level on this poll too. I was left wanting more, but not to say I am not mostly satisfied with what it will pack. It's just that where it comes up short for me is an area that matters a lot to me, so now I have to wonder if I buy a hardware beast phone and move to ICS when the development community (or the OEM) support it, or go for ICS now?! Stuck in debate: HTC Vigor or Samsung Galaxy Nexus???!!!!

I'm all for it. I'm debating whether I will miss the SD card slot. I use Ubuntu and have Ubuntu One storage set up on all my boxes and my phone so swapping something in and out file wise is simple. If it comes with 32G built in (or was it 16 or 32) then I have enough space for pics and any video I want. I use music services like Rdio and will push my music files to Google Music Beta or Amazon. I think it will be fairly hard for me to eat up all of that space.

The camera was the other important thing and what I'm seeing so far I like. The only bad pics I have seen have been on Engadget and they are known for intentionally screwing up the review of any non Apple product. Seems others are saying the camera and video quality is great.

People complain about the non-removable memory and the 5MP camera as the deal breakers. I like the idea of being able to remove the memory but in honesty I never removed it except to replace the class two with a class 6 memory card the day I got it. With everything going to the cloud and using the USB hooked to my phone to transfer stuff, who really needs to remove the memory. Unless you are living in 2009 and still store all your photos and MP3s on your internal memory, then you really don't need more than a few gigabytes of storage.
As for the camera, pretty much all the test pics I saw were a bit blurry but I get the same results on my phone when I don't clean the glass before taking a pic. I am hoping the same is happening here because it would be a shame if they put something that doesn't at least match the quality of the GalaxySII camera. If it turns out that my Incredible takes better pictures, then I might not get this phone.
The biggest reason I am planning getting this phone is 4G speeds on verizon and NFC. The awesome screen is icing on the cake(ice cream on the sandwich?). Otherwise I would just install ICS on my HTC Incredible.

I'll admit I was disappointed by the 5MP camera but I can live with that I guess seeing as the Galaxy Nexus still delivers 1080p video recording. The 4.6 inch HD screen really does it for me, a step up from the 4.3 inch screen on my HTC Sensation that I'm definitely looking forward to. The omission of a micro SD slot worries me slightly but I've survived with just a 16GB card in my last two handsets so I think the 32GB version should be enough for me. I guess the killer aspect of the Galaxy Nexus however has to be the marriage of Samsung Technology with pure ICS goodness, I can't wait!

5MP camera is not the deal breaker, no expansion memory slot. I'll pass!

Though I'm still considering getting this phone, the thing that makes me the most nervous about it is the lack of an SD card slot (Say it ain't true!). Does this cause a problem with apps that look to store information on the SD card? I also usually use the SD card for backups. Some individual apps backup their apps to the SD card in case the phone's memory is wiped or any other reason. This would no longer be able to be done. The only other phone I am considering is the HTC Rezound and wait for Ice Cream Sandwich to eventually come to it. The Motorola RAZR seems out of the question for me, since the battery is not removable.

Come on guys, you had to include a mid-way! I think the hardware is quite good but overall not so impressive... A lighting fast phone with an amazing graphic card - and a smaller screen, but these are personal tastes - would have been the very welcome, but overall I can't complain.
Anyway, the specs of the phone are nothing jaw-breaking.

  • markslavin - 13 years ago

Asside from the screen and OS, I think the Galaxy S2 is the Samsung phone to go for and I'm sure the OS will be updated on that in the not too distant future.

    1. I could understand using a 5MP camera if it was a quality module and there were no good 8MP ones on the market. But seeing the fuzzy test photos posted yesterday, it's inexcusable when there are much better 8MP modules like the ones on the G2x and many other high-end devices.
    2. That back is hideous.
    3. The silly bottom hump is not necessary.
    4. No SD card slot? No buy.

On top of all this, aside from the screen, it doesn't seem all that revolutionary. I think I'll stick with the G2x and load the inevitable CyanogenMod ICS when development starts. NFC stickers will hit the market soon, and the Tegra 2 may be slightly weaker than the latest and greatest chipsets from the last few months but it's no slouch.

  • jbernardo - 13 years ago

I agree with Mr. Gasm - I was disappointed by the same reasons. And if I could accept that a 5MP camera might even be better than a 8MP, depending on the sensor, the lack of uSD expansion is a deal breaker. I don't even ask for an externally accessible slot, like my old N96 had, an internal slot like the Nexus One would be enough.

  • ROB - 13 years ago

I was disappointed because I had heard rumors of two different set of specs and had hoped for the better model. The two sets of specs indicated to me there might possibly be two phones. I am still hoping for a model with a 1.5 G processor and the larger 2050 mH battery to be released on Verizon after this one. But, as it is, it's a gorgeous form factor with ICS.

  • Mr. Gasm - 13 years ago

The 5MP camera and lack of an SD card slot are what killed it for me, everything else I love about the phone. Now instead of itching to get my preorder in for the Galaxy Nexus, I'm left wondering how many months I'll have to wait for a handset with ICS to get it right.

  • Nexuz-Uno - 13 years ago

I was kind of expecting more, but it did not disappoint. I plan to get one on launch day.

I love Apple - have a Mac Pro and a few iPods. I also love Android - have a Droid Incredible and it's time to upgrade. I think the Galaxy Nexus blows the iPhone 4s away. I think the RAZR and the Incredible HD / Rezound also blow the iPhone 4s away. I wanted an 8 megapixel camera for the Nexus and a microSD card slot would have been nice but with the development of the cloud perhaps it won't be as necessary. Android Beam is awesome and I look forward to that along with all of the other great functionality of Ice Cream Sandwich whether on the Nexus or the Rezound (which I think will have NFC which Beam requires). I'll get the Nexus if the 32GB version is $299 otherwise I'm getting the Rezound with Beats and hopefully ICS before too long.
