Is Facebook privacy worth ditching Google for another search engine?

I think Facebook will be the one losing out if Google goes ahead with this decision. Google is omnipresent and most people cannot do away with many of its great products. So, I think it is likely that users may ditch FB for Google!

You people ranting at google about this are incredibly stupid. This is facebook's issue, not google's. If they did not want google to have the ability to index this content, then google could not be able to. Not to mention the fact that *you* not using google does absolutely nothing to keep others from using google and finding your retarded rants in the search results.

Perhaps think before posting ridiculous comments in public?

First of all, make your comments only for your friends. Use the controls to set who you want to see your comments. If Google posts those, I am pretty sure they would leave themselves open for some massive law suits. Don't type anything that you would not say in the middle of Walmart or at church. No vulgarity or death threats. You can still be as political incorrect as you want to be, just remember that your boss or parents might be able to search it!!!

Search Google's ties to the White House.
    No, seriously. Do it.

I hit the wrong button. It should have been yes. Ditch Google and protect your base.

And this is only the beginning. Google has been involved in the Arab Spring movement and I can imagine how many other things. They are in bed with this administration and stand by for another win by this administration (2012) so that they may be able to do so much more. I just changed my homepage to BING, everyone should....

In the interim, since we can't do jack about who uses Google, the real question should be rephrased, "Would you ditch Facebook, if Google starts indexing your comments?"

  • Tanner - 12 years ago

I'm not sure why people would freak out about this. My question is, why would you freak out about posting a comment in public, like on other websites or what not? You are already posting your comments for the world to see when you post a comment on a website, logged in on facebook. But I guarantee that if they go through with this, there will be an option for you to hide your comments.

Will never use google of Facebook again if this happens...and by the votes even if you divide the response against google doing this in half they will still lose over a therd of their users...How about a "Not Occupy" google and Facebook movement...

This won't make me ditch google. However, it might cause me to ditch facebook.

It's hilarious to read some of the comments here. I have yet to see Google be able to/actually do half the crap that are SCUM media print about them. You people read something, assume the BS is reality and run....

Sorry guys, this is nothing new. I was searching my name a Google a while back, and found the results littered with my FB comments about 6 months ago. Why was this? The groups and fan pages I had commented on where available for public viewing. THERE WERE NO PRIVATE POSTS AMONG THE RESULTS, NOR WILL THERE BE. SIMPLY SECURE YOUR FACEBOOK to PRIVATE/friends only! If you don't want anything at all from FB on Google, simply do not comment on fan pages. Easy as A-B-C.

    i've already ditched both.

  • Andrea - 12 years ago

That's dumb. Ditching Google yourself won't keep OTHERS from seeing what you've written on Facebook once they do this. Switching your search engine would have no effect on your Facebook privacy.

  • Kyle - 12 years ago

Facebook users just need to be aware that there's no such thing as privacy on the internet when your real name is attached to it.

It looks like some here need to start reading The Constitution of the United States, it's in clear violation of Amendment V of the Bill of Rights. Business is NOT business when it infringes on the Bill of Rights. If anyone had done their homework, they would have already know that both google and f/b are nothing more than CIA funded data-mining operations. That's just a fact, plain and simple.

  • Darrell - 12 years ago

This is purely a business decision. It gives people more unrest about Facebook, which doesn't have an excellent past dealing with privacy issues, thus promoting Google's own Google Plus.

As it says, it's only things that fall into the public realm, not on private pages. Realistically, if you are worried about how someone might respond to your post in a public forum, maybe you shouldn't have posted in the first place.

Google is the epitome of evil.

BS'D This is one comment I'm happy for Google to have - you are 1984 incarnate with this. I know I am not alone in saying that I will be happy to get away from Google, from gmail - from everything connected with Google if they go ahead with this. It is a total invasion of privacy. I have nothing to hide - but it isn't Google's privilege to decide what should be out there in this fashion. I shudder to think of who and/or what government(s) are backing them on this, and urging them to do this.
