Who's the No. 1 team in the country?

I can see where a team like Boise or Okie St. or Stanford could match up against the better SEC teams on a given saturday. But you have to consider that those teams don't have to play 8 SEC teams during the year. LSU beat Bama, Auburn, Missisippi State, Tennesee, Kentucky and Florida, and still have to play Ole Miss and Arkansas, and perhaps S.C. or Georgia in the conference championship. While some of those teams have losing records, that is so because they too play 8 SEC games. South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi State, Auburn and Florida were all ranked teams (some still are) and only lost because they had to play LSU, Bama, Arkansas, etc. Get the picture? Add to that LSU played tough out of conference road games against Oregon and West Va. I'd like to see Boise, Okie St., or Stanford play that schedule and see if they could survive, let alone be undefeated. LSUand Bama are by far the best teams in the nation.

Hands down, LSU is the best team in the country right now. And frankly, I don't think any of the other current undefeated teams would come within seven points of the Tigers, no matter where the teams played. There are no two better defenses in the college ranks than LSU and Alabama. I have no doubt, whatsoever, that both teams would crush Stanford, Okie State and Boise in head to head games.

This said, here is the rest of my current top 10: Alabama (2); Stanford (3); Okie State (4); Boise (5); Oregon (6); Oklahoma (7); USC (8); Arkansas (9); Houston (10).

If LSU wins out, it should play the remaining highest ranked undefeated team for the national title. If there are no undefeated teams left among Stanford, Okie State or Boise then a matchup between LSU and Houston would be appropriate if the latter remained undefeated.

An LSU - Alabama rematch would only be appropriate if no undefeated teams were left at the end of the regular season.

Boise State? Why is Boise State an option and Alabama is not? I wouldn't even put Boise State in my Top 10. Boise is a good team, not a great team. Playing good teams week after week sucb as LSU, Alabama, Stanford...that's the test of the No. 1 team. Not playing one mediocre Georgia team (Teams ranked 10-25 are in my book mediocre). Of course, the media will play up Boise State's upcoming game against TCU, but TCU is clearly mediocre this year and will get spanked. Their defense is not even close to its usual standards. Not to mention that the conference wanted to ensure Boise State won and changed it from a TCU home game to a Boise State home game. What a joke! Please let Boise play LSU in the National Title game so they can get stomped 60-7!
