also, Howard Stern regularly scolds guests for using the three letter F-- term. or even saying FA---T.

The Gays are soiling everything. Marriage, Military, Movies, etc

You want to be gay fine, but get out of my face faggots and stop pretending to be normal and insiting that we accept you as normal. It is a free country so you have the right to be sick and degenerate - in private, but don't insist that I watch it, accept it or endorse it. It is NOT normal.

LET'S DO THE WORLD A FAVOR AND PUT THEM BACK IN THE CLOSETS!!

    WHO CARES?! – you should.
WE'VE GOT CHILD RAPISTS AT PENN STATE!
And no one cared about the victims – just protecting the University
    WE'VE GOT CAIN THE HARASSER!
No one cares about the victims, just the rights of the harasser!
Nobody gets punished for anything anymore - especially on the left coast
go to jail and get out in five or less hours... or minutes
Punish the guilty universally and start to see what we used to have 40 years ago - respect for the rules and the law!

Eddie would have been a great host. We could always another lame ass person like Billy Crystal. Being called a Fag is not the same as being called a Kike or the "N" word. Fag means you're gay......well, aren't you?

    From Dictionary.com:

    fag·got [fag-uht]
    - nounSlang: Disparaging and Offensive 1. male homosexual - Related Form fag·got·ty- adjective

WOW! Look at the NO votes. I wonder if an Oscar Producer has said "Rehearsal is for Kikes or Jews" (or "Ns") if they'd feel the same.

No wonder Hollywood has become a bastion of racists, homophobic fat little d*cks with squirrel nuts. By the way, if you have to brag about how "big" they are...it speaks volumes about how tiny they are.

In times of economic uncertainty, minority communities come under increased discrimination and violence. While not alone, gay and lesbian teens are becoming the targets of unbearable and unceasing venom from their compatriots. The worst, most dismissive thing a kid can say about anything is "that's so gay!" Children without any sexual experience at all who are identified as gay by their peers have their reputations ruined and their daily school experience is a hell they aren't allowed to escape. It's time to stop verbally abusing them.
While Mr Ratner certainly has a Constitutional right to disparage people he thinks are beneath him, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences also has a responsibility to all of their viewers to protect them from people like him. Which they have done.

@Fern Laplante -- "No" vote = homophobia, huh? Your logic sucks. Maybe a person casts a "No" vote because they think people should be a little less sensitive. This person, for one, would have voted the same way if the man had dropped the N-bomb.

But why fight your fear of nuance when all it does is lead you to embarrass yourself with adolescent generalizations?

Stop hatting on Eddie Murphy. He has more talent than most of you people hating on him. Ratner's remarks were not that bad, he didn't kill anybody. He apologized, leave him alone. I heard the interview and I understood what he meant. He was trying to draw a context around endless rehearsals.......look at the last Oscars and the endless rehearsals.........disaster of a show.

It was a joke, using the word in the way that people used to, knowingly. He didn't mean anything, the audience wasn't shocked by it. I understand that kids saying that to another kid is actually insinuating that "fag" equates to "bad" or some negative concept, but he was knowingly jokingly using it that way. An apology is fine for those who need it. But I'm thinking most gays probably understand the context.

  • Fern LaPlante - 12 years ago

Anyone that votes "NO" is a homophobe. If Ratner said the 'n' word or any other racial slur he would be out ASAP. But for some reason gay slurs get a pass? I don't think so.

  • DMan - 12 years ago

Eddie Murphy is the one who should go, not Brett Ratner.

According to the Wikipedia: "Eddie Murphy is the actor with the biggest contribution in film losses, starring in 5 different bombs on this list, having total inflation adjusted losses of around $340 million." You can find the link here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_biggest_box_office_bombs

Mr. Murphy will be the reason the Academy Awards ratings will be so very low. It won't be from a gay slur.
