But WHY?
Why should Germans sacrifice so Greeks can retire with pensions at age 50? Why should others help a country that WILL NOT HELP ITSELF?

The only way the Euro can survive is if EU members are required to balance their budgets. Given that that is unacceptable to the members then the Euro and EU will fail. Just a matter of time.

I don't see how a so-called economic union lacking some serious sort of political mechanism, can long endure.

PIIGS are 30% of Germany's NX. An exit from EZ will bomb that.
