Hi, I believe that Congress members, who are elected by We, the People of the United States of America, deserve too have the brightest and the best to represent us in the Congress of the USA.
This would mean that they have an idea of how average people live and, having said that, I believe they should have the same rules and regulations as the rest of us. They should pick their own Insurance companies, their own cars, homes, pay the same rate of taxes as the rest of us, the 99%, and should not be allowed to take any money from Lobbyists, such as Newt Gingrich.
They should have no privileges, such as their Over-The-Top pension plan, other than to serve their constituents. They should not be allowed to give themselves a Salary Increase, because they are so egotistical that they always go overboard. They should work in Washington for one sole purpose, that being to to what is for the highest and best good of all of us who are United States Citizens. Anything else is sheer rubbish. They should be subject to the same laws as any other person is. It seems to me that we no longer have a society that has any Values whatsoever. It is clearly evident that President Barack Obama has been attacked because of his race, rather than anything he has done wrong. He has done no wrong. When he started his campaign in 2004, he had no knowledge that the bottom was falling out of the US Economy.
The Bush Administration left him in a horrendous mess and I applaud what he has done to help put us on the right track. Who is there out there who could have done a better job. NO ONE.
The Republicans have had a chance to help with getting the jobs rolling but their answer is always NO. NO Negotiations. Do they even know the meaning of the word? I doubt it.
President Obama has, against all odds, done an excellent job that no one could compare to.
God Bless America and there are many amendments that are needed to our Constitution, starting with the rules that our Congressmen and women must live by. They should be given no money from the outside or from the inside or from any foreign countries or entities. We need them to really be able to understand. Being an Adulterer should ban them from running for the ONCE esteemed office of Congressman or Senator of the Contress of The United States of America.
Merry Christmas to All and Happy Holidays to all who are of ANY FAITH who live legally here in America.
    Thank you, Elizabeth A Stratton

In other words-when people were trying to save their homes and just survive to pay some bills. Those Democrates and Republican were making thousands bettings agains us. This is just the straw that broke the camels back. That saying now I understand- 'Show me one good Politian and I will show you?" The Republicans want to play take away from the poor and the middleclass-while lining their own pockets. This is an insult to the American Dream and what the United States once was. It doesnt matter if you are a Republican or Democrate this should fire up something bigger that the Occupy Wallstreet. I had seen the whole thing on 60 minutes. The part I didn't see on your interview Anderson, was the secret meetings that were held behind closed doors, where they were given the informationn that there was going to be a crash and to take that information and use it against us. (We the People), to make big money. We the people never received the same information so that we could do the same and save our homes. I am 73 years young 10 Grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. This takes the cake though. It seems like they disregard that we are the ones that put these crooks into office and yet they think that they are there just for themselves. Yes we want a balanced budget but not on the backs of the poor and middle class. Failure to pass the jobs bill and then go home to their families and have a great Thanksgiving Dinner, while many can't even keep a roof over their heads. I am middle class-Raise my Taxes Please-As far as wealthy people and big corporations. like Oil companies-you Republiscans make me sick because it's plain to me that you are in their Back pockets. What is so sad is that there is no Republican I would vote for as they all want everything for the rich. I only get Social Security and my 70 year old husband after putting in 47 years with one company is now working for minimum wage just for us to get along. We didn't get any warning there was going to be a collaps. We lost most everything and are trying to hang on to our house. Scam Shame. Even if an Honest President was elected, he would get no help from congress. Most people don't realize that the President of the United States does not have the power that you think that he does.I love my country but this administration and congress wants us to think that they have fought for the trust of the people that put them into office because they want to serve the "people" Hogwash, it's for the millions of dollars that they can scam while in office and to top it off "it's not illegal" They don't reven care about their great salary they get -given freely by people who trust them. No it's not the salary it's the perks -they are better than " We The People" and they are above the law. I am sick. I heard one Congressman say and I quote "I am going to do what is right for the peoople" even though the polls say that they wanted the Jobs bill passed. It's called "gridlock-I call it the most sickening development and shameful doings of this congress.

When politicians start to stutter they are lying. It is inappropriate that they can do what would get any one else put in jail and get away with it. Aren't they suposed represent US?

A LIST of congress-persons ,needs to be made,of these deeds of insider trading. This way the average voter can make a discession ,guilty or innocent,at the polls. And vote the bums out,and maybe a bill ,can pass and make it retroactive back to 2005.Then they can be with people ,like them, who break the law.

Congress should not police it-self,they can't be trusted. They are all crooks.

The proposed legislation should be just the start.
Allowing Congress to simply put their stocks into a trust is not enough. They should be prohibited from any stock deals, period.
Their job is to make laws. In doing that they will still be able to influence the value of their stock.
Dick Chaney held a lot of Haliburton and Brown and Root stocks when he won election . It was placed in a trust until he left office.
How much do you think that stock was worth after steering hundreds of contracts to "his" companies?

I'll bet the 3% voting NO so far are members of congress or their staff. What a bunch of crooks. The saddest part is we keep electing them.

Great job 60 minutes and good job Anderson for shedding more light on this issue. It's outrageous for members of congress to profit from insider information and taint their decision making.

  • Herb Mahanay - 12 years ago

Congress has gotten far to much like a kingdom of their own.
They were voted into office by the citizens and work for the people to govern as the people wish, not as they wish. They should not take addvantage of insider information.
Also, they should not have the special privilege of establishing their own pension and medical plans. They should be on the same plan as all citizens. How can we protest and stop this?

  • Chuck Schulthies - 12 years ago

This issue really needs to stay on the agenda and it goes deeper, as their Staffers also trade on this information. With some Staffers getting as much as a 9+% raise per year things are really getting out of hand. LegiStorm really digs deep on these guys. Keep up the good work.

We should follow the Arab Spring/Fall example and elect ALL US Representatives and Senators should be elected out next year and make sure they don't get their retirement benefits like the rest of us.

  • R. G. Hylland - 12 years ago

Physicians are precluded by law to accept anything remotely suggestive of a gift from pharmaceutical companies. Shouldn't a similar law apply to ALL legislators to reduce financial influences on their decision making?
