Maryann, thanks for the memories about Crawford. I had forgotten about singing carols on those stairs which at the time I thought were so enormous. I also recall how beautiful the Manger display was on the corner of 2nd & Grant near City Hall.

Remember going to the Plaza with the whole school to watch cartoons and movies? They even gave us a bag of popcorn. That was such a wonderful adventure for me and a great memory.

I remember singing carols when I went to Crawford School. We had these great staircases that were at least ten feet high. Two Christmas trees were decorated with paper ornaments made by each grade. We would stand on those stairs to perform our carols. I remember singing "I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing By" in third grade. We always sang religious carols and that song was different and really a new one for us. I also remember singing Pilgrim songs that kids never learn today. Too religious. The children don't know the carols like we did back then. My grandparents lived in Homestead and we would sing carols all the way to and from their home on Christmas Eve. One holiday we had snow falling as we were driving home. We were forced to pull over on Homestead Duquesne Road and wait for a cinder truck to treat the road. We still talk about that adventure. Happy Holidays!
