Enough with the complaints 600 kids getting moved and parents are upset. Why, what are your kids going to do when a real change takes place in their lives, like a death, divorce of their parents, moving to a new neighborhood or state, and god forbid a different color of paint on the wall. Grow up, life is full of changes.
I think the kids can handle the change it's the parents who can't for some reason. Maybe they will make new friends or find new opportunities. If the redistricting saves $100 it's better than what we have now.

How does any business vote for changes when they haven't provided all the figures for cost or benefits? They voted on a plan to make a plan. That's not a plan! Show us the benefits of redistricting! Show us the savings! Show us increased value in our homes! Show us better transportation for our children! They can't. So they voted for a plan before the community became informed. Shame on them! Suspend this plan & vote these board members out. We need members that actually care for our children & our community

it has to be done but the board and the district have to put more time into the boundaries they set to move children that are 10 min away from there home school to 45 min ride to the new school why? to expand boundary lines to pick up a few kids let them go to there school now and expand the other way so kids that are close can stay at there home school. i think if they built the school on the land toll bros. was going to give them free there wouldnt be a prob. with over crowding. but the wanted it state of the art and it got shot down. get rid of the board we have now and get some real thinkers in there instead of what we have that only care about themselves and the super things have to change

Is it really worth all this turmoil?

    There is no plan...

I have faith in the system that somebody in power will come to his/her senses and put a stop to this.

How come it has not come out yet, who is behind this realignment?

  • Eddie Adams - 9 years ago

How can somebody vote when they do not have all the information? Who is pulling the strings?

  • Mary Callahan - 9 years ago

Yes, we should suspend this decision until we are kept abreast of the future plans. This is a serious mess with no outcome.

Transparency!!! Suspend the corrupt decision. Public needs to be informed. With a plan that you can read, a map you can see and proper time for adjustment. Not rushed through. Not next year. Until the people can make the choice.

How could anybody say this is a good plan?

  • Jennifer Reisman - 9 years ago

Suspend the plan. The board disregarded what the community wanted at the last two board meetings. They were elected to represent what the community wants. They had no plan when they voted on this!! They do not have the children's best interest in mind. Students should not be forced out of their neighborhood school and sit on a bus for 30+ minutes to attend a school in a different neighborhood. This plan will cost the taxpayers more money in transportation costs. I also don't like that they said they would have extra staff such as psychologists/social workers to help kids get through this transition. Is that extra salaries the taxpayers have to pay? They obviously know that this transition for K-6 grades is going to be detrimental for them. They don't care.

Mr. Carrion's plan is not a true plan. It was a slide presentation lacking answers to fundamental questions. How will the redistricting be funded? By what amount will my taxes increase? Will class sizes be lower for grades 2-6? The Board of Education is irresponsible to vote for redistricting as outlined in the presentation without projected answers to these questions! Slow down and create a true plan with transparency.

What is the board gaining from this?

  • Morton Downey - 9 years ago

Who is actually benefiting from this?

  • Richard Soedler - 9 years ago

This so called plan does not pass the smell test. The numbers of children have been up and down with no clear solid path. It certainly doesn't feel like the children's interests are the priority here. Don't take action on something unless you can clearly explain the reasoning, cost and positive impact behind it.

It most definitely should be suspended until a REAL plan with clear details are effectively communicated to all district parents. Then the plan should be decided by a district vote, not just the BoE and superintendent making their own agenda become reality. All BoE members who supported the March 9 vote should be held personally accountable for their actions. They have shown they are not qualified to be in their elected positions and they do not represent the wishes of the very people who had trusted them to run the school district as it should be run.

Would be interested to see comments from the supporters of the K-6 resolution. Do they know it's a blank check? There's no plan, cost analysis, final maps or budgets attached at all?

  • Jessica Lacalamita - 9 years ago

SUSPEND THE "PLAN". . . Plan is a term used loosely throughout this. Communities (neighborhood communities, town communities, school communities) are being torn and misplaced. Keep these kids together. This is the wrong time and the wrong plan. Listen to the people. . . it is not appropriate to move forward with a plan that continuously changes, has no financial impact reports, no consideration as to how this will affect the taxpayers, families and most importantly the children! Suspend the Plan!

    How can everything keep changing?

  • Anne LaValle - 9 years ago

    Plan? What plan?
It's a rash and reckless decision with no identifiable purpose or validity. But it most definitely is NOT a plan.

  • Nancy Badger - 9 years ago

YES - suspend this farce of a redistricting/reconfiguring until there is an actual plan for how to do it. The Board of Ed. voted to approve the "recommendations" made by the superintendent - there is NO PLAN for how to accomplish redistricting - at least not a plan that has been made public. There are hastily drawn lines on a map denoting which neighborhoods will attend which schools next year - this is NOT a plan. The vote to redistrict gave the WCSD Board of Ed a blank check to do whatever they want with the children and tax dollars from our communities. The current maps move some elementary school students from a school within their neighborhood to a school several miles away! Much more thought needs to be put into how to redistrict/reconfigure our schools before moving forward.

  • Regina Simeoforides - 9 years ago

Of course it should be rescinded, there's no budget, no plan, they're constantly changing the maps and still threatening to close a school while trying to buy new 3 million dollar property. Don't support a blank check.

  • Kathleen Holze - 9 years ago

SUSPEND this re-districting. Show us a real plan! Take the time and do what's right for the community and not for your own agenda!!!!

  • Jennifer Whitehead - 9 years ago

SUSPEND THE REDISTRICTING and then throw the board members out!!! NO BLANK CHECK for them! These are our schools and our community and it's time for us as Tax payers to take control!

  • Michelle Reese - 9 years ago

This "plan" needs to be stopped until there is a true plan in place. Even after the vote things have changed again. There is not enough information and it is being rushed. And unfortunately the ones who will suffer the most are the children.

  • Melissa Foote - 9 years ago

This plan needs to be suspended. We can not agree on a blank check for this Superintendent. Show us how this works, show us the financial plan. How does a vote happen and then changes are made to it more than 2 other times regarding boundry lines, and maps?? These are our children, not a number! Do the right thing and suspend the plan! Sacrificing the children and purchasing a building for district offices is simply NOT ACCEPTABLE!!

  • Nicole Nagel - 9 years ago

When they wanted to close Orchard View, they were giving a year for that transition. How can they transition 600+ students in 5 months? There are no clear or fair boundary lines, no cost analysis. They spoke last year about moving district offices into the empty classrooms. Why must kids sacrifice while they get a 2.6 million dollar building?? Why did the district accept marsh land from Toll Brothers?

  • Monica Freer - 9 years ago

yes they need to suspend this plan because there isn't a real plan. No financial plan, no transition plan and boundary lines on redistricting maps that continue to change. This plan is too big to not complete a thorough due diligence and allow for public discussions.

  • Jeff Gartner - 9 years ago

Suspend the plan so they can get an actual plan in place that includes the benefits to the community. There is no need to buy a district office building as we have space including 1-2 schools that will close. Their board has lost the confidence and trust of this community and should resign.
