kwinebold, you are right...it isn't marketed for productivity to anybody, adolescent or otherwise. I've referred to it as an "entertablet", a portmanteau of "entertainment" and "tablet". That's what I expected it to do , and it does that very well.
That said, are you using ES File Explorer? I haven't lost a file yet. :) I also like Wi-Fi File Explorer, although you are then accessing it through a computer.
KLM, that's great! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me directly on the blog. That's the best place to comment as well...I see those typically very quickly.

I intend to use Docs in the future.

Had high hopes of using the device as a small tablet, but I'm still still struggling with the godawful file navigation system, even with quickoffice and a file manager. Those have helped, but too many downloaded docs & pdfs are still disappearing into the ether.
amazon's refusal to support or enable alternative/portable keyboard options is also a hindrance. I'm thinking I may have to bite the bullet and buy a device actually designed for productivity (aka an ipad). Sell this to some adolescent looking for a cheap entertainment device.
i would use apps even more if it could connect to cloud drive...
