Because there was an accident NEAR a nuclear facility some would want that plant to close. Let's expand the question: if oil tanker railroad cars go off the tracks and explode and do horrendous damage should we then close all oil-fired energy producing plants too?

I think the people of the united states needed to embrace nuclear power as it's cheap and delicious form of electricity. Forgive me English not a native language...

I feel it's high-time that NYS starts moving towards solar, wind, and geothermal sources of energy - regardless of accidents at the plant. It's there, it's possible, we just have to put together the technology (which, again, we do have - and will only improve with time). Eventually: Indian Point will not be our main source. It doesn't have to be.

The transformer was off site and had zero impact on the operations with the plant. If Indian point closes Westchester and NYC would have to tap into a power grid. Not very dependable way for power . If a small grid goes down it browses from another grid and so on and so on. End game , many power outages.
