It's time to review outdated laws on the use, cultivation, and sale of marijuana. So many preconceptions about the drug are founded on misinformation. Not only will legalization allow for medical benefits to numerous aliments with a solution that's mostly free of side effects, but at a recreational level, legalization, could provide a healthy alternative to alcohol, which is currently the #2 most toxic drug people use after tobacco.

For example, I was given Sumatriptan as a prescription for migraines. Not only is the medicine only slightly effective for me, some of the possible side effects include irregular heart beat, risk of stroke, chest pains, heart attack, liver problems, and other serious conditions. It's a serious drug and has some nasty side effects.

Cannabis relieves the serious pain and nausea of my migraines more effectively with none of these potential complications. If I over consume, I might get tired or hungry, but it's not a long term health risk in the same way that the pharmaceutical options are.

But, because of the way laws are written, we don't legally have the option of using cannabis where it might be the safest and most effective choice of medicine.

Wasn't this already a question a few weeks ago? YES! BRING IT ON! There are far too many in our community sick and suffering, when a very real, very safe, very effective medicine is available. Don't confuse the kind of marijuana used recreationally with medical marijuana - they are different strains, that affect the mind and body differently. The science is widely available and still coming forth, and it's high time NYS gets on board. [And For those sticklers that absorbed Reefer Madness without question: Just because you don't "like" pot, or are scared of it, or just don't understand it - doesn't mean everyone else in the world should be denied medicine based on your ignorance. Thank you, Good night.]
