I think A and P's problems can be summed up by my last visit to one. I was asked if I needed help by three different employees who noticed me reading the signs above the aisles but only one told me the correct aisle in which to find what I was search for. The people are great but they lack they same competence as Hannafords or Adams.

Echoing comments above, A+P has priced itself out of business. Store brand oatmeal at LaGrange store is 5.99 while Shoprite's is 2.99. Worth the drive.
Hoping that Shoprite will take over LaGrange store and keep the employees.

The A and P in Pleasant Valley has one WAY down hill in the service department. Many times, there are lights on at the registers but when you get there, no one is in sight. Why? The girls are all clustered talking to one another or the guys are in the parking lot walking one cart at a time up to the store. There seems to be no one over 35 supervising. One day there were 5 girls clustered at customer service looking at pictures and when I had the nerve to ask them to check me out (I had 2 items), they told me they were busy and I should wait on the one register that actually had a live body there. There is one young man who spends most of his time going to Duncan Donuts and walking friends/family through the register with hundreds of dollars worth of meat that are rung up for pennies on the pound. Get someone in the store to pay attention and get the employees working! The few who do their job are overworked and I feel sorry for them.

Their prices are too high-- an example- a package of fig newtons that is $2.99 at hannaford is $7.99 at a & p. If you can buy almost three packages somewhere else for that price, why would you go to a & p??

I seem to do well, taking advantage of their sales. Works for me. The employees have always been friendly, professional, and an asset to the company.

I remember A&P from the early 50's, going to the store with my mother. Small store, open 9-5 & closed Sundays. Owner, nice elderly gentlemen, would help take things down from top shelves. Very fond memories of days of yore but the store really hasn't kept up. There is limited choice staple brands and prices are high (perhaps because they treat their employees fairly with adequate pensions). Adams' Fairacre prices are also higher on many items but their selections are fantastic so I pay. I wish A&P had taken heed and broadened its selections.

We have shopped there for decades but I agree with Olivia B above. The prices are more expensive than the other supermarkets available in this area.

Always find them to be more expensive than others. Would love to see a large Wegman's.
