I travel in and out of Poughkeepsie on a regular basis and never had an issue! I also worked there at one point. Grew up in the Hudson valley area and deal with business & recreational activities throughout the city of Poughkeepsie & have done so my entire life. I'm not afraid in any way and I'm not going to be scared out of Poughkeepsie either! I personally agree with what "Scrotie" said above bc it's true!

I use to live there years back and I moved away because it was getting so you couldn't leave your windows open at night in the summer time. My car was jacked up and they stole my new tires. They took items off our motorcycle and stole my pistol in my house. The Hosiers boy stole it.

The city just needs another walkway over the Hudson. Then it'd be a real tourist destination.

It is sad that they keep trying to make it better. But as long as the crime is bad it will be a was of time.

I would like to say that our mayor is almost non-existent. He is good for a smiling photo-op...that's about all.
It's sad that Poughkeepsie doesn't have good leadership which could go a long way to help control crime and create business opportunities for the people who live in the city itself. Sadly, Poughkeepsie is on a downtrend these days with all the heroin, crack, robberies and shootings.

I had to go to the Dept of Health a few years ago. Crack was packaged in tiny plastic rocket ships back then. With every step I took, the empty vials crunched under my feet like so many June bugs.

From a statisitcal statpoint, Poughkeepsie is a violent and dangerous city. Keep in mind, however, that the overwhelming, vast majority of the violent crimes are committed by criminals, thugs, and gang members against other criminals, thugs, and gang members, and that the overwhelming, vast majority of these violent crimes are black on black. That's right -- I said what the PoJo News refuses to report: The common element connecting the last seven shootings is not just that they involve "mostly young men, gunshots and city locations," as the PoJo New reports; but rather, all of them are believed to involve black men shooting other black men (and one black woman).

Why is this important? Because the liberals who control the main stream media only seem to report the race and ethnicity of the shooter and victim in those statisitcally rare instances when a white person shoots a black person. Because black lives only seem to matter in those statistically rare instances when the shooter is white and the victim is black. Because black lives are apparently irrelevant when both the shooter and the victim are black, as evidenced by the lack of public outrage and protest by liberals, Sharpton, and the Black community in response to black on black crime. Because the general public ought to know that the chances of becoming the victim of a violent crime in Poughkeepsie is statisitically low as long as you are not a criminal, thug, or gang member.

I worked in pk. I worked on cannon st for many years. the first think I had to learn is how to spell it. out office was on cannon street.on one end was academy the other was the circle on Clinton. so at night it didn`t matter what end you went out it was crazy. people who know that area know how it is. we were greeted the first week by the regulars throwing bricks through out brand new trucks windshield. but as time passed they learn we weren't leaving so we somewhat got along. first we had the towns buddie peaches. don`t know really what happened to him lots of stories. then we had paul for got his last name people who live in the area might help me out with the last name . I know out of respected we attended his services. even thought people will say oh he`s a drunk paul was a good man . a very smart man who did keep us informed. so it a roughed place to work live you got to be on your toes, if you look like you don`t belong there you will be in big trouble. these people is this area a small bunch of them were very bad. every city has this problem. one last thing I use to drive by that nasty railroad bridge every day. use to hear they are going to fix it up wait I said wait I`ve heard this for 10 years. si now I`m gone from the area . and what do I see when I went to visit my daughter . she said I have to take you some where I`m telling you in my opinion the bridge is one of the best things ever done in the city. as I walked on the bridge it felt so great. if I still lived down in dutchess county I`d be on it every day. thanks for the time

I haven't entered the city in 20 years. I stopped trying then because three times I was accosted trying to get to the Library. Pok wants to attracted tourists to the grand old city. How will that work if they feel they have to wear bullet proof vests before leaving the train or car? The boarded up buildings, street litter are also a strong call for visitors.

Do not go to Poughkeepsie anymore as crime has gotten so bad. With day time robberies and murders it seems better to stay in a safer area.

Many I've noticed already work too slow in the "Fast Food" restaurants.
