They should put this on a referendum and let the people vote and decide if all elected and appointed officials should keep their raises.

  • Embarassing - 8 years ago

It is embarrassing to call the following individuals the "Leaders", since they have chosen the path of greed and self interest. They opted to close their ears when the people spoke, and their minds were met from the onset, which was, about ME, ME, ME and only ME. Please remember these people tomorrow, next month, next year and in 2018, and remind them of how self serving they are.

Eddie Calvo, Ray Tenorio, Rory Respicio, Tina Muna-Barnes, Tony Ada, Tommy Morrison, Dennis Rodriguez, Brant McCreadie, Frank Blas, and James Espaldon.

  • disappointed - 8 years ago

absolutely shocked that they voted to keep the raises after all the noise the public made. There was no way to justify it.

  • J. McDonald - 8 years ago

Deserving? When the cabinet members accepted their jobs to serve the people, they knew what they were going to be compensated. You cant say you are deserving when what you did in the last 4 years, IS YOUR JOB. As for the Lt. Governor, what does any Lt. Governor do to deserve $110,000? Ask yourself that question? Now with the Senators, most of you like Respicio, Barnes, McCreadie, Tony Ada, have outside jobs and contracts. How can you honestly tell the people of Guam that you deserve $85,000?

  • Ronnie - 8 years ago

In simple English, the people were cheated. Rory, Tina, Dennis, Tommy, Jimmy, Frank, Brant and Tony, along with Ray Tenorio, should never be allowed back into public office. These offices are one of trust and honor, and they have proven in the last 24 hours, that they lack it.

The raises were wrong, and this poll is absolutely rigged. Just an example of the arrogance of the government employees, the legislature, and most importantly the staff of the Governor. I would like to note, that if anyone wants to actually see the abuse of government dollars going into salaries, then visit the Lt. Governor's office. A bunch of young kids acting like its the West Wing, with projects such as the Island wide Beautification, Mural Paintings, raising monies for another mural, walking his dog, and scheduling ribbon cuttings and appearances for their "celebrity wannabe" boss. They are also instructed to call him Governor when Eddie in not in the office, and to fill his challis, yes a challis that the kings and queens use to drink from, with water at all times. However this staff earns more then our teachers, nurses and definitely our police officers. Visit the office and you will experience this as well. By the way, they are also paid to rig these types of polls. Very deserving indeed.

I'm all for giving people pay raises, but a 40% pay raise is ridickulas! Top that off with retro pay back to the beginning of the year is not only irresponsible but downright selfish.

The governor (does not deserve his title to be capitalized) stated that he will fight for his people concerning this pay raise. May I remind you governor that the people that you should be representing is the entire people of Guam and not only those that work for you.

My main disagreement with this pay raise is how it was presented by the lt. governor and the way the legislature voted on it. In the middle of the night, with no public hearing, and no feedback from voting public. What does tell you about our elected leaders. They all know that if this pay raise went through a public hearing , that it will not go through. Tai Mamalao hamyu todu (SHAME ON YOU ALL). And you call yourself Chamorros.

  • Eric - 8 years ago

I agree but I am still waiting for my TAX REFUND!!!!! GIVE OUT THOSE WHO FILED IN JUNE ALREADY!!!!!

  • Basta Umbre - 8 years ago

its the holidays and they need the money! maybe after they will revisit and vote again...IMMORAL is the right word but what do they care, we voted them in and they will milk us taxpayers...we will suffer for their greediness and our kids and their kids will suffer the most. Biba las ladronis! the good lord is not sleeping..

  • JOSH PETER CHOI - 8 years ago

It should be ILLEGAL for these guys to give themselves a raise for the past!

Giving themselves back tracked raises is IMMORAL and WRONG!

You agreed to work for a certain amount of money at the time so why should you be able to back track and give yourself a rise for past work.

Any raises should start the NEXT TERM!

In fact, that is how the U.S. Congress works.

The 27th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution says that any pay raises for members of Congress only goes into effect after the next term.

This amendment was created to prevent crooked officials from giving themselves pay raises for the past and present.

Under the 27th Amendment, raises can only go into effect the next term.

So there is no way members of the U.S. Congress can pull a stunt like our Guam legislators did.

Guam needs a law that does what the 27th Amendment does!

  • Freddie Rodriguez - 8 years ago

Thank you Senator Michael San Nicolas for leading the way on this issue. You have proven that there is some integrity in the Legislature, actually in the Government. To my distant relative Dennis Rodriguez Jr., it is unfortunate that you have taken the path of greed and selfishness. Todu Guam is about bringing the people together, yet, you have divided the community and have helped create a black eye for the peoples trust in their government. I encourage my friends and family to remember your actions of November 17, 2015, when they vote next year.

  • Sylvester R - 8 years ago

This poll is rigged. Selfish employees at the governor and lt. governors office got their rewards and now are rigging this poll. When the say they are working hard, they are insulting the people. I work 2 jobs, and one at minimum wage, so I can feed my family and pay my bills. I don't have political connections, but I have an education and experience. Even my day job can't afford to pay me more then $35,000, so how can people in Adelup make an excess amount? I don't have the benefit of a reward, or can I take a 2 hour lunch break, or even leave at 2PM for the day. So please don't insult me by saying you work hard, governors staff, cause after 2018, you will be just like me, finally working hard and understanding that life is not the same when you don't have a political job.

  • Prema - 8 years ago

This voting is rigged. Did Calvo and his team encourage government workers to vote in this poll under duress? It is insane for these raises when Guam Regional Transit Authority is so underfunded, bus schedules sporadic, buses poorly maintained and contracts are not transparent and tied to interlocking relationships with island tour bus companies. Give us a break! $85,000. when thousands of locals get minimum wage when food prices are sky high!

  • Dededo resident - 8 years ago

    This poll is obviously rigged.

  • JJ - 8 years ago

Why bother elected officials??? So much talk yet at the end you all got what you wanted.....lots more money in your pockets.

  • Lani - 8 years ago

Surely pdn will publish these results knowing it is RIGGED! Calvo you are the worst of them all that fu**er is laughing all the way to the bank. His family businesses are reaping benefits. His staff is making more money than the senators. And where are the people? Running to the states or checking fb to see what the fu** tan Maria and tun Jose is doing. Guam needs to get its priorties straight.

    Yet another Fake Poll..

  • Troy Hafa Adai - 8 years ago

Congratulations to those 7 senators who voted with the people, voted with political courage, and voted selflessly, when they voted for 204. The message was clear... Guam cannot afford to pay for 40% salary raises for senators, mayors, the cabinet, a worthless Lt. Governor and the Governor at this time, as we need to focus on the hospital, schools and our people. This is not about what everyone deserves because most of our local workforce is hardworking and deserving&. Rather it is about what our government can afford. For the other 8, if you can't respect financial priorities, then please do us a favor and resign, because you are dangerous for our children's future, while you are in office.

  • Zaria Kaipat - 8 years ago

The ones who truly played us all along were Brant McCreadie and Rory Respicio. They introduced Bill 201, knowing they didn't have the votes to have it passed, but they knew if they voted for it, they can then campaign that they supported the senatorial salary repeal, without actually taking the cut. Considering they were 14 & 15 in this last election, they were desperate. It's disgusting, but desperate times means more lies from our politicians. If you vote them back in, then you fell into their despicable trap. We will not forget next year.

  • Grinch - 8 years ago

    You're a monster, Mr. Grinch
    Your heart's an empty hole,
Your brain is full of spiders, you have garlic in your soul, Mr. Grinch, I wouldn't touch you with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole! Theme song for all you holiday Grinchs. Congrats to those who have a spine to vote against Bill 204! Santa will be good to you.

  • Rex - 8 years ago

The elected officials ran for office knowing what the pay was. If it wasnt enough for then they should've stayed out of office. The conspiring to leave out the public hearing was a disgrace. Governor and Lt Governor included. They are in it for themselves and not the island or its citizens.
The pay raises should have been REASONABLE raises such as 5 or 10%. The next election is the GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY for new citizens to run for office. All they have to do is REMIND the public about this pay raise scandal and they have a very good chance to unseat the career politicians.

  • Franklin Maurer - 8 years ago

    Another fixed poll.

  • Hypocrisy to the Max. - 8 years ago

6000 petitioners that supported the Competitive Wage Act are just watching VERY closely those Senators - San Nicholas, Torres, BJ Cruz, Tom Ada, Frank Agoun, Underwood, Wonpat that voted to repeal the Executive Branch, All unclassified/appointed, All Mayors & vice mayors, & AG pay adjustments. We are watching, because they didn't want the pay and want to see them introduce a bill specific to just them to return their pay. Return it then Hypocrites! Stop your B* mind games, acting like you don't want the pay.

  • Blah Blah - 8 years ago

WHATEVER! Voters of Guam will just vote these clowns back in because they're either related, mom/dad told them, or they WILL forget. That's what senators count on and you, voters of guam, never fail them. Names like Ada, Respicio, Wonpat, Cruz, San Nicolas, or Muna Barnes love being household names and on your voting lists for decades. Psshhh! No need to wait and see sheeple just look at past elections going all the way back to Gutierrez. You get what you paid (voted) for.

  • Islander 2 - 8 years ago

Corruption , Nepotism and Greed at its finest ! Gov Calvo is the leader of that pack ! Thanks Gov Guam !

  • Mr. G - 8 years ago

Calvo and his elected officials should be terminated from their position. People like you are making Our island of Guam in poor state. The money could be used for something that we all can benefit in, but I guess you wanted to be rich quick before you finish your term. God will see and He will punish.

  • Majah - 8 years ago

At $85000.00 a year, you'll see a lot more people running for senator on the ballot

  • Joe paul - 8 years ago

I disagree with the decision to keep the pay raises. Both branch of government are out of order. They gave themselves a pay raise without a public hearing. Our nation was founded based on democratic principles and values. No one is denying the Executive and Legislative branches their pay raises, but should have gone before the people to have a say in the process. These salaries are too excessive. Yet, the schools are in dire need of repair, the power plants need to be upgraded, GWA water system down South need major improvement to include the public roads. To the senators who voted to keep their salaries, come election day the people will have the final say. In the famous words of Abraham Lincoln was said, "government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth". The people of Guam will have the final say, not elected officials.
