To Edward Horton, to correct your statement, the general public does not own a fully automatic firearms. There is a very small number of Federally licensed dealers that can own a fully automatic firearm. These types of firearms are strictly regulated by the federal government, intense backround check are performed and special permits are required. An assault weapon, by definition, is a, or has the capability to fire in the fully automatic mode. The New York liberals would have you believe otherwise.

The UnSafe Act, does nothing to protect school children in a school, on a play ground or in a bus. The NY Safe Schools and Buses Act would have accomplished that. But our NY State Assembly & Senate led by Andy cannot solve problems or protect students. Our elected officials have proven that they are corrupt (Silver and Skelos are both convicted felons) and their cronies continue to steal tax dollars to fund their pensions. The Unsafe Act is a joke and a waste of tax payer dollars, registered rifles will be confiscated by the state when the owner dies. Proving that registration equals confiscation. Only 23,000 people registered their rifles 90 percent of them are Law Enforcement the other 10 percent are firearms dealers. The citizenry did not register, nor did they throw away their magazines. Unconstitutional law does not work nor is it obeyed. The Unsafe Act is a waste of tax dollars and shows how delusional and unfit to solve problems Andy really is. Repeal the Unsafe Act. Pass the Safe Schools and School Bus Act. Problem solved Constitution Intact.

Isn't it a contradiction to what all the gun rights nuts say that restricting access to assault rifles will only leave them (the assault rifles) in the hands of criminals? Weren't the assault rifles used in the recent mass killings legally owned by the criminals that did the killing? I don't care if anyone owns firearms or not, intense background checks & mental stability should be stricter than they currently are.

Does anyone really believe that all AR rifles have been registered and all large capacity magazines have been disposed of?

IF the laws on the books were enforced and NO plea bargaining was allowed the arrest total would probably be triple that of what is posted, the Safe Act is a "feel good" measure, do you really think the criminals really care WHAT the laws say!
The overwhelming majority of arrests are in the inner cities and WHO lives in them....... Not the law abiding gun owners!

I agree with Chester Wood. Doesn't make a different how many bullets we use in our guns. We gun owners who have license s aren't not the ones who break the law, it's the criminal's.

  • CHESTER WOOD - 8 years ago

WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE IF YOUR GUN HOLDS 8 BULLETS OR YOU CARRY 10 MAGS (CLIPS) OF 8 BULLETS I THINK THAT IT IS A STUPID LAW THAT ONLY LEGAL GUN OWNERS WILL ABIDE BY.NO CRIMINAL WILL EVER ABIDE BY ANY LAWS ,NO MATTER HOW MANY THEY ENACT

Background checks should be tightened even more so than they are now. It is the character/personality of the human being misusing the firearm that is the problem; not the firearm. I also support the general public's' restriction on possession of fully automatic weapons. Those types of weapons should be reserved for use by law enforcement and military agencies. The rest of the Safe Act, particularly as it pertains to the definition of "assault weapons"and the restriction of certain accessories, is hog-wash that was ill-conceived by a group of people who have little to no understanding of firearms.

Criminals, .pby definition, will never follow any law. All of of these pile on gun laws just make law-abiding citizens less safe while imposing on their 2nd amendment rights. The liberal law makers may think these feel-good gun laws are doing something good, but in reality, they have the opposite effect.

99% of the arrests that have been made post Safe Act would have been made anyway if there were no Safe Act. The Governor is blowing smoke up the butts of the liberals who no nothing.

The real issue is whether restricting the gun rights of law abiding citizens reduces the use of guns in criminal activity.
