Free association will help us as an island, by returning excess land to the people, and preserve Chamorro culture.

This is the FLAW of this whole topic, the people organizing it have NEGLECTED the most IMPORTANT choic. NO CHANGE, Making the entire effort meaningless

Independence, in my opinion, is the better choice for those who feel we need to have more control over our island. We would have absolute control over land instead of the U.S. Congress, immigration, and not to mention it could benefit our students with more knowledge on our culture.

Free association will allow the return of land to the people of Guam, give us control of immigration, and give the Government of Guam the power to change the way things are, from political to economic issues and everything in between. In addition, an educational campaign on each of the political status options must be done soon since a large number of islanders are unaware of the benefits of each.

If I had a vote, I would vote for statehood. I think this would be the best for Guam and the U.S. as a whole. Guam would gain the benefits of being a state like having a vote for the president and congress. Contrary to the belief that becoming a state could ruin our culture, I believe that Guam can see our culture be strengthened. More people would be interested in our culture once we show what we have to offer. The best example I can think of is Hawaii.

Free association will allow Guam to be self-governing, also if you vote for free association it will allow us to return excess lands to the Chamorros.

If Guam held political status plebiscite today which option would get your vote? Do we really have enough information today to move forward or make a decision on this? My opinion to this question is that it is an absolutely absurd question. Maybe except for those group of people who want to try and capitalize the Island in some form or another, the majority living on this Island are still not informed properly with the right information. If we can't even understand how our budget will be fixed within the next 5-10 years from now, how can anyone in the right mind even discuss how and who will govern us? Sad but true, a lot of things are being floated around that just don't make sense.

I know many of us would choose statehood for many reasons. Did you ever think of looking into free association as your choice of political status. I believe that if many people look into resources about free association and what it would do to help Guam. we would have a better understanding of what Guam political status should be.i know many people want rights for the people of Guam and in some way that is why most people chose statehood. How is Guam going to be a state? We have one of the smallest population and if Guam does become a state the bigger states will have more rights over us. Pls look into free association and look for some resources, but I am not saying you have to vote for free association.it is your choice to make the right decision.

If Guam chooses free association then it would be able to join several international organizations, such as the United Nations, in order to attain access to procedural assistance and other programs that can aid development.

Being a state would allow Guamanians the right to vote for the President, a vote in the House of Representatives, and two votes in the Senate. This gives us more control and authority over our lives. Decisions made by Congress over the people of the island may not reflect the best interest of the Guamanian people. If we become a state, small luxuries, such as the ability to have mail delivered to your home, would be easily attainable. Currently, we have to go to the Post Office to receive any mail.

free association can really help our island and everything we've lost! our land, our culture, everything that was taken from us can become ours again while we try to get back on our feet as an island! we can revive our culture, create our own government and pass our own laws, educate our young generation with more Chamorro culture and what we need. we can become a successful independent state, but yes, we do need some help. all we need is a little guidance while we try to get to our goal and becoming freely associated with the U.S. is what we need! lets do this for our island, for our people, our culture! BIBA CHAMORRO!!!

I support Statehood. Education is the key to success and assurance of the island's future. Therefore, if Guam were to become a state, the grants, student AIDS and scholarships provided by federal funding will be depleted. However, state-level taxes will be implemented on the island. Having the U.S. Constitution implemented will ensure Guam to receive a higher quality of funding and a better learning environment.

I was born and raised Guamanian, but many on island must understand that the unique culture of a people can only be preserved by economic and social isolation. Japan did so centuries ago and their unique culture blossomed, but the nation lagged in development in comparison to the rest of the world until its later reforms to do away with old practices and governance.
Guam is now connected to the rest of the world and has exposure to foreigners, so the attempts of others to preserve -- or even create -- useless practices and beliefs of old will be in vain. Your children will do better economically learning the Korean language than Chamorro, which is becoming more useless every day as fluent Chamorro speakers die off.
The path to Statehood is not quick and easy, but will open the island to the rest of the world's greatest military and economic superpower and give Guamanians more say in the affairs of the Federal Government. We cannot run a country alone on land rentals and beaches. We have no natural resources to offer the rest of the world that other nations cannot more efficiently provide. We cannot create a Singapore or Switzerland when our closest economic neighbors are the CNMI and the FSM.
Don't be a Cha-moron. Do you really think Chief Kepuha had a six-pack? Do you really trust that your child will speak Chamorro outside of Gov. Guam's break rooms? Don't let the angriest voices turn our island into another saltwater ghetto in Micronesia. Vote for American Statehood.

I am not sure how many voting age Guamanians fully understand the definition, background, history, political and future implications of these terms. In my opinion, there are not enough grassroots education, discussions and debates on this issue prior to conducting the poll.
