    SUE THE GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN!

    NOT THE U.S. GOVERNMENT!

THESE PEOPLE SHOULD BE SUING JAPAN FOR CRIMES COMMITTED BY JAPAN!

SUING THE U.S. FOR CRIMES COMMITTED BY JAPAN DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!

the u.s. paid in American blood on the beachs, enough.. they should also stop the millions the American taxpayer sends to guam each year. stop govguam out of control spending and support yourselfs.

Another point to keep in mind. The territory of Guam has a very unique situation in that no one living on Guam (and this includes the military on the bases there) pays income tax to the United States. All the U.S.
income tax paid by people on Guam, including the military, goes into the Government of Guam treasury and NOT to Uncle Sam, and Guam has no separate territorial income tax. But we who live in the states pay our annual U.S. Income tax to the U.S. government, and most of us also pay a state income tax. Despite the fact that Guam pays no income tax to Uncle Sam, Guam does qualify for and receives nearly all the federal grants that the U.S. government provides to the states.

This is a greedy campaign. The people pushing this completely ignore the fact that Guam was attacked and occupied by the Japanese in WWII NOT because it was an American territory, but because it was close to the Northern Marianas which Japan already controlled. Furthermore, Japan's plans for Guam was enslavement and the people of Guam owe a huge debt of gratitude for the fact that American lives were lost in the Liberation of Guam. However, I do think that veterans on Guam do have a valid complaint about the lack of sufficient Veterans Administration availability to the veterans on the island.

I strongly disagree with war reparations to Guam. Much American blood was spilled when our Federal Government sent our brave U.S. Marines to liberate Guam. Were if not for them, Guam would be living under the Japanese flag. To add to the insult, only 20 years later Guam sold or leased much of their prime beachfront property to wealthy Japanese businessmen. If you want "reparations" ask them to provide the funds.

Remember that the Federal Government has no money of its own, only what it extracts from the American people in the form of taxes. Asking the "government" to pay up is essentially asking for money from the descendants of the men who fought and died to liberate your island.

Sorry not repetitions but reparations . Lol.. Oops

  • Islander 2 - 8 years ago

Only on Guam will they compare their right to war repetitions to the Iran hostages receiving money . Lol .. Ridiculous comparison. We have a road named after a branch on the US military " marine drive " we celebrate liberation day with a parade and applaud our liberators the United States of America , we promote aggressively the military build up and we commemorate our veterans . We view the USA as our heroes and we are now going to file a lawsuit for monetary compensation . For what ? If it's the Japanese that caused all the pain and suffering then file a lawsuit on the Japanese ! Tax their tourist more ! This is just more of the " pocket stuffing " campaign and they just can't help themselves . Tina Muna Barnes OMG she is so damn corrupt it's not surprising she would be involved with anything that would entail more money into her pockets.
I hope the Feds give them little to no money for the Liberation of Guam ! Saki Party ! Pocket stuffing greedy idiots !

The composition of this group reminds me of the movie "Usual Suspects" and the quote ""The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist," says con man Kint. Change the word devil to "non-partisan politicians" and you there you have it.

Sue Congresswoman Madeliene Bordallo not the U.S. Government. The U.S. offered compensation to all survivors more than 5 years ago. Bordallo rejected this and demanded money be paid to all the descendants of those who suffered. This greedy demand is nonsensical and unprecedented. So no court in the land will entertain a lawsuit against the US for compensation. They offered to pay compensation and Guam rejected it.

The U.S. Federal Government is responsible for Guam's foreign policy and is the central authority in our affairs with other nations. This holds true with the other states and territories of the union. The Imperial Japanese dragged on a brutal war that not only affected Guamanians, but many more stateside American men and their families.
The peace treaty agreed to by the Japanese cost Guam's survivors, but it also created one of America's strongest allies and economic partners across the Pacific after years of war, which our puny island economy greatly benefits from. Guam's natives must understand that the United States is our voice in the world, one with immense influence and centuries of experience, and that although the Federal Government is not perfect -- democracy is sometimes a messy process -- it was right to give up demands for reparations in an effort to create peace with a people willing to die for their emperor.
It is time to stop dwelling on the past. World War II began more than 70 years ago and our island is already dotted with monuments and parks in its memory. The elderly and their old ways will gladly soon die off. It's time to accept that.

If the United States could be held accountable for damages to Japan, I feel that someone should be held accountable for the people of Guam. The great grandparents, grand parents also went through great deal of sufferings in that WW11. We the people of Guam are forgotten when we want to be remembered.
