By the way juan - it's not taking money from the tax payers....or bailing out a company its stopping the over taxation of a specific industry that creates jobs in our state and is not just Dover Doens centric. There are other tracks as well and thousands of employees. The state leveraged the group of tracks when they needed to get approval to have slot machines to save the horse industry in Delaware. Then the state went on to continually take advantage of their position and take and take and take. This industry has had a great positive impact on the state and will continue to have for some time if the politicians (poli being the Latin word for "many" and "tic" being a blood sucking insect) would be reasonable. I dare say if they took your income Juan and continually taxes it until you lost money, you might think differently.

It's simple - be reasonable and not overreaching. By the way - Dover and the other tracks are tax payers too and contribute quite a bit more to the state than you do Juan. Let's not forget that fact.

I think we as Delawareans should call for an audit of all state legislator expenses that are reimbursed and take a deep dove on each of them. It's time to take control of our state, curb spending, grow our businesses and be the best we can be.

Dover Downs has been a great help to the Dover and the Delaware economy.. Now it needs a little help. Not a handout..Just a little relief from its high tax rate. Remember they where the first in line to take it when times where good...Maryland , New Jersey and Pennsylvania are cutting into profits.

Dover Downs has been great for Delaware.Let,s not loose it after all these years. Our legislators can solve the problem buy not taking the cut of profits they do.Help them out we will be better for it..

And for the people that say the H-LL with them ..Be careful what you wish for .

The state has no problem offering millions in tax incentives to the DuPont Co. Why the preferential treatment? The casinos are a business too!

Delaware needs to be able to compete with NJ casinos. They are only taxed 18%.

    They did it to themselves!!

Why should hardworking taxpayers take the hit??

They don't bail US out when WE struggle.......

no state involvement whatsoever in private business. its a very easy solution. and yes, that means no taxes..dover downs would be completely fine without the likely insane high taxes on it. and yes, roads will still be paved, just not politicians in charge or profiting off of them

there is no such thing as small government, or "responsible" government either. it only grows, and becomes more irresponsible and self service....cut Dover Down's and ALL business's taxes (eliminate them if possible) and you will see all of these businesses hire more. the only people hurt are the zombies who depend on theft for their wages from employees such as those at Dover Downs....

Taxpayers shouldn't be on the hook. So, the state should cut their skim off the top. If the state didn't extort and take near 60% off the top maybe a privately owned business wouldn't need help.

Spending on an addiction, then spending on addiction recovery. Whether it is gambling or pot usage, it is not the taxpayer's place to keep this cycle going and going. Time for a massive change in Delaware.

The Democrats that have been in control of this state just can't help themselves from spending, not just every penny they can get their hands on, but despite budget shortfalls they continually come up with even more spending and giveaways plans. Their only solution to budgetary issues is to raise taxes and fees on hard working tax payers and borrow more and more money to make ends meet. They never consider cutting spending or even evaluating the effectiveness of the costly social programs they promote. Just look at the performance of our schools and the incredible increase in violence in Wilmington and Dover over the last decade, and what is their solution? We have to continue spend even more money, which we don't have. While this is an extremely successfully strategy for a politician to get reelected in many parts of this state, it is a failed strategy that has never worked to actually help solve any the many issues we face in this state.

The state needs to budget and and look at tomorrow just like the rest of us, raping business by increasing taxes isn't good business because sometimes it's better to pack up and leave.
You see what's happening in Alaska - like a bunch of drunks they depended too much on the oil $$$ and now 30 years later and the price of oil is down they're talking about bringing back the state income tax - good times always end at some point. Should have saved some of that $$$ instead of spending it all.

Why should the taxpayers have to bail-out Dover Downs because Denis McGlynn, Ed Sutor, and the rest of the overpaid executives don't know how to successfully operate a casino?

  • Rick Ess - 8 years ago

    Screw them

I can say that it is abundantly clear that the state is over reaching in what they are asking for out of the Gross proceeds.

It is not the state giving up taxes - it is the state not being greedy and being better stewards of the taxes they collect on all of us. Why should the hard workers at Dover Downs and other tracks be penalized for the mismanagement of government assets and the greed and lack of knowledge of the legislature

As for dividends that the lady refers to above - this is incorrect - Dividends are paid from profit so no profit = no dividends. Perhaps she might get the facts correct before making accusatory statements

I wonder how we would all feel if the state came in and took 43% of what we each made off the top....thats the next stop. If we don't stop this now, then they will be reaching into the pockets of all of us and taking more and more.

Why can't the state control their spending and be reasonable instead of taxing businesses to a point where they can no longer sustain operations.

Sure would be interesting to look at the expense reports of all the legislators and see how they are spending the state's money.

Dover Downs is a PRIVATELY OWNED BUSINESS !!

They have INVESTORS that are paid nicely.

They have MANAGEMENT that are paid nicely.

DELAWARE TAXES SHOULD NOT BE USED TO SUPPLEMENT THEIR PROFITS !!!

IT SHOULD BE CAPITALISM THAT DECIDES IF THEY LOSE MONEY AND/OR GO OUT OF BUSINESS !!!

START CUTTING OUTRAGEOUS SALARIES AND DIVIDENDS !!

AND IT'S SOME OF THE "SAME INVESTORS" WHO ARE INVOLVED IN OPENING OTHER COMPETING CASINOS IN NEIGHBORING STATES !!!

THE INVESTORS ARE PLAYING BOTH SIDES OF THE COIN AGAINST THEMSELVES !!
