Guampedia has absolutely no factual info regarding everyone's concerns or questions on ancient chamorro life. It's just all a guess from what they can dig up from the ground and ideas borrowed or taken from other cultures.

I think the reason it all looks copied is because Spain took over Guam and Filipino. Maybe that's why they so similar. Other than that is told the Chamorro people lost their culture because they would be even killed if they spoke their language long ago. My best friend chamorro. Their family don't even know where all the sudden dance come from. They feel chamorro teachers just come up with it. I will do what I can to help though. Not only comment. Guam my home so I love it culture and people.

People, Before you start making comments about copycats.
Go to http://www.guampedia.com and read "Chamorro Dance". ( Frank Rabon)

Other great information can be found on Guampedia.com

How do people preserved the culture when young people change it. I agreed with Islander 2, stop making it up, (copy cat) that's how l hear and see it. The females dancer should wear the culture wear, the boy's and men. I see more Filipino amd Hawaiian dancer in it, wake up master's. Master's you need to go back to the past and do your home work, the website.. What man or woman wrote that is a copy cat. But good job for the dancer's for preforming.

Your right about copying other culture. They offend the Hawaiians but imitating the hula dance. Go to Outrigger hotel lobby and you will find a picture of an old lady tattooing someone That lady is from the Philippines who is the last tatoo artist in her kalinga tribe, again using other culture to portray it's their. And everything is master this master that! Why is it everything seems to be art in other country its use and made in a daily life. They are just lost looking for their identity!

Being bred , born and raised here I often wondered where did the cultural historians get their evidence from regarding the dance , way of life , traditions of the ancient Chamorro's.? From my understanding there are no records of this just fragmented artifacts of pottery , sling stones , latte stones , coral jewelry , bone fish hooks but none in written evidence of drawings depicting ancient life of Guam ? I'm guessing they made it up and copied dances from Tahiti and French Polynesia . Are we to believe what they teach ? I've been just going with the flow on this but if someone could educate me if I'm wrong please do . I really would like to know . Thanks guys .. P.S. I love my island just confused on the ancient cultural translations conducted by our local historians and " traditional dances" etc... Being part Chamorro no one can really explain in my family how they accumulated the info on ancient Chamorro life . Go to Chamorro village and check out the artist and listen to him explain some of the ancient Chamorro way of life like its a fact and not a guess .. I want to know but it seems everyone I ask is just giving me an educated guess.
So it could mean none of what they teach is factually true . Right ? Just saying . Lol.
