It will take a good deal of time for the widespread awe of the rumbling engine fades into obscurity. A man I recently viewed reported on Discovery channel's Daily Planet is attempting to link Mazda's rotary engine in a hybrid electric configuration. The 6 cylinder, 0.9L engine produces a base 165 HP. It is banned in all north american vehicles except Mazda's RX series in my opinion due to the race that engine was attributed to winning in the early 1980's. This engine is capable of being the most efficient and reliable hybrid engine design which will lead the automotive powertrain industry into the future when the ban is lifted.

Not until a lighter, smaller battery that will last 250 miles is developed will electric cars be more desirable than what we have now. And with electricity costs continuing to rise, it may become too expensive to recharge the battery. Even then, will an electric car ever be seen as a reasonable vacation type vehicle?
