Should Sean Payton and Gregg Williams appeal their suspensions?

C'mon, even in Texas high school football there are (unspoken) bounties on the other team's prize bulls. Go to any game and watch the rception a D player gets after injuring a guy from the other team. Basketball is a contact sport, football is a collision sport. If you are concerned about concussions, etc. DON'T PLAY THE GAME! Payton should appeal and he and the Saints organization should sue Goodell and the NFL for everything they can get. He is being punished for lying to the commissioner - all the other teams walk because they cover up better than the Saints. Hypocrisy at its worst.

A 7 million dollar fine to Sean Peyton seems very steep. All NFL players are taught and coached to hit hard and hurt your opponent. The only thing the Saints did wrong was to include a small (based on the million dollar salaries) monetary reward. No different from receiving a bonus at work for hurting a competitor company by stealing business from them, or causing harm to a competing company. Part of playing football is to hit and hit hard everytime you have a chance. This is what the fans like to see.

A 5-8 game suspension would have been sufficient and still make the statment the commissioner wanted to make.

Too bad for Sean Peyton who is being used as an example in this case.

I hope the Saints win the Superbowl for the 2012-2013 season! They still have Da Man Brees!

Just because you accept full responsibility for a crime doesn't mean the punishment fits the crime. If I accept responsibility for jay walking you can be sure I'll appeal a life sentence as unfair. I'm not saying the punishments aren't justified in bountygate, I just disagree with the argument that appealing the suspensions means you don't accept responsibility.

Payton's punishment is to severe for his role in this. Williams is the one who installed and ran the bounty system. To give him and payton the same punishment is not right. I know Goodell said Williams is suspended indefintely with a review after a 1 year served. Goodell will reinstate him because he is more mad a Payton then him.
