You should try to also keep in mind the use case where you want to send an email to one of your friend and ask them to XXXX you. If you use "Fan", XXX becomes "Hi I found this great service called Seesmic. Where is the link where you can become my fan". Not a good sentence (too arrogant). On the other hand "here is the link where you can follow my videos/me" is not as bad.

No. I can follow somebody not because I agree or "love" what he said but to stay inform of his point of view (exemple: media1938)
Most of the people I follow deserve my respect, but I'm not their fan! I want to know what's going on with them, what they are doing/working on, but being a fan is far beyond that.
I wont tear my hair appart crying and yelling if I see them on the street! Unless "fan" is stronger in french, I'd say it's a little bit too much in this situation...
Follow sounds right. I chose to follow you but haven't decided I am a fan yet. 'Fan' is too presumptuous. Lesson learned from twitter hehe...
A Fan? It's too much.
I'm a fan of "fan"! Don't be a follower, don't use "follow"!
I think that it doesn't matter if you call it fan or follower. However, if 2 people both follow each other it is a good idea to call them friends.
The poll doesn't allow for this differentiation.
I like that you care and are paying attention to the details! Good work.

follower == stalker
fan == fanatic
viewer == viewer
