The UP couldn't afford to plow its roads in the Winter without downstate money. SE Michigan/Detroit is the problem, not the Lower peninsula.
I love both sides of the bridge.

Last time this was attempted all the Michigan voters were allowed to vote on this, including everyone from downstate! they should not be allowed to vote for this, all they care about is having to pay more for out of state snowmobile licenses, as well as hunting, and land taxes for 2nd home, camp or land owners. They do not live here, and more and more are bringing all their supplies up with them so they only have a minimal financial impact on many business. People from Ohio, Wisc. and Pen. all pay these out of state taxes and so should those who live below the bridge! If we had to choose one state to be associated with for me it would be Wisc. besides we are connected to them by land. Also remember on another note in history; Lower Michigan did not even want this "useless, wild parcel of land" until that is they discovered our hidden wealth beneath the ground. I say take back our land! Even every hunting season the DNR must go back into session to amend any new rules they have made just for the Upper Peninsula, just goes to show once again we are a 2nd thought to them. as far as many of us feel, just get rid of the bridge altogether!

Traveling back and forth from the UP to the LP it looks like two different States all together and we are not even connected anyways but by a man made bridge. Our Represenatives for the State probably never stepped foot in the UP or they wouldn't want to sell out to all the mining companies to ruin it and to distroy one of the freshest body of water in the world!

Why not? I was born and raised in GrandRapids, MI and moved to the UP back in 1995. I love it up here and dont plan on ever leaving. This is truely 'Gods Country' so why not it's own state.
