Should the speed limit on E.C. Row be reduced?

People who can't handle driving Expressway, are same people who don't know how to proceed at 4-way Stop, or when the traffic lights go out, right?
BTW, McDougall is 40km/h, I was going 50 already. So, the driver who felt the need to pass me...I'm not getting a speeding ticket cause you're late for work. Set your alarm earlier, or skip your morning Tim's stop.

People really have to merge as opposed to stopping on off ramps as well. Potentially very dangerous.

Maybe if some drivers knew how to drive properly on a freeway that would make E.C.Row safer.
Take Drivers ed or stay off the expressway
Drivers that don't drive properly on a freeway not only place themselves at risk everyone else around them are also at risk

This is not built to expressway grade, dips at Dominion, Dougall and Howard, Cental play havoc when icy conditions are here. I am a strong proponent of higher speeds on the 401 and some concession roads but E.C. Row never did merit a 100 k limit, the 2 lanes (which should be 3) are too narrow and there are too many exits that are close together especially at rush hour. Lets face it people if you want to cruise a real expressway go to Detroit where they build them better.

Signs won't do any good. Those drivers who are completely oblivious to the 100km/hr signs will not pay attention to any new signs. People just need to learn to how drive and have some consideration for others. Stop tailgaiting, start using your turning signals, etc. Don't drive like you own the road - drive like you own the car!

I see no real increase in traffic due to the DRIC construction - however what I do see, as posted many times here, are vehicles travelling slower than the traffic flow and invariably in the left lane. I was taught that slower traffic should keep right. These same slow travelling vehicles do not get up to speed on the ramps either - making for potential rear end accidents and/or at best - congestion. The drivers of these vehicles should stay off the expressway until they learn the 'protocol' of expressway travelling and are capable of the same.

Lowering the speed limit will NOT solve anything.

Reducing the limit will create more rage then anything. Its called an EXPRESSWAY for a reason. Moron!
Get people away from driving 90 in the left lane. Left lane is only to pass. Make a mininum speed limit. And if you don't like driving 100 then take another route. Simple people!

Maybe we should look at putting in a Min. speed limit on there so that when people driving only 80km/h in 100km/h they would get a ticket. Half the problems on there don't even do the speed limit causing good drives to become frustrated and make a mistake.

People need to drive right and pass left.

Put some limit on the trucks that use EC Row- either time or speed restrictions or both.
Many drivers speed trying to get away from these leviathans- because they block lanes or are going too slow.

Also, widening the shoulder lanes would help. They are in terrible shape in some places along EC Row.

I think something should be done
    reduced speed limit
raise the age limit from 16 to 18 to get your drivers license
    there are too many young drivers out there; anyone can drive but learning to control your vehicle when needed is something that most don't know how to do;

Why drive cars at all? Horse on horse accident rates more much safer.

I agree with posting signs to remind people to stay in the right lane except to pass or let people merge. I also agree that posting a minimum speed would be useful as well, I have been behind numerous people doing 50-60km trying to merge onto the expressway, that is dangerous.

  • sharon - 12 years ago

Too many accidents on the expressway are fatal, because of the speed factor. When 80 is posted people do 100. When 100 is posted people do 120 and so if the speed limit is 110 people will do 130.

  • Karl - 12 years ago

I agree with John, we need signs "Keep Right Except To Pass"!!! Keep the pokey people out of the hammer lane!

  • Richard - 12 years ago

How about a minimum as well? People going 70 on the ramps are dangerous. You know who you are!

  • John - 12 years ago

It should not be lowered but a good I idea would be to install signs to remind people to STAY RIGHT EXCEPT TO PASS

How about no speed limit at all? Works in Europe...
