SHOULD there be a traffic light at 10th and Pennsylvania, or should we let the sleeping dogs lie?

I wonder if people who have a strong negative opinion about this have actually tried to cross these streets at this intersection other than by driving through?

I do, half a dozen times per week on foot and on bike on the north sidewalk of Pa Ave, and after nearly getting run over countless times I'm thankful that we're FINALLY getting some help with this crossing.

Give it a shot: walk the north side of Pa Ave some morning from 8th to 12th and note that 10th is the only street that's a challenge to cross. Pay attention to how many vehicles block that crosswalk, and if you're extra-observant notice how few drivers even look away from oncoming traffic to notice you on the sidewalk.

If you have a little extra time to stand at 10th and D SE, you may spot another reason this crossing is so problematic: drivers know there's no stoplight there and bail from 9th and 11th to 10th to bypass other drivers. You might even realize that most of this traffic comes from vehicles that aren't registered in DC.

Adding this stoplight will start to restore calm to this residential neighborhood, and at the cost of a small delay in crossing a major road it will provide a huge increase in the safety of this important route to schools.

Please rephrase the No so it's not inflammatory about a District agency! Then I will vote No.
