I have a home care agency in Northern Virginia, and I teach others how to show respect and love for someone with Alzheimer's. If I knew I were going to have Alzheimer's Disease myself, I would start preparing by learning as much as I can about how to make the weeks, days and hours meaningful, successful, and rewarding for someone with Alzheimer's - and then TEACH THAT TO MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS! We would role play situations where they grieve losing who I used to be and accept who I am and what I can do now, where they practice bringing fun and laughter into our interactions, where they learn how to peel themselves away from my anxious clinging in order to take a break, where we practive speaking to me from their hearts even when I am unable to respond.
