The only thing that didn't make sense is the fact that Walt, who used to cross every T and dot every i would have been careless enough to leave that volume out in an area where anyone--most of all, Hank--would have easy access to it. It's one thing to keep it in a bedroom drawer, but in the bathroom?? --Unless Walt's arrogance had increased to the point where he felt he was untouchable...

Jesse didn't have the gun because he was considering shooting Walt. He had it because he is terrified of Walt, and was afraid Walt was really there to kill him.

So careful, and yet (kinda) got caught...ah, these things always happen sooner or later. So don't mess with drugs kids, as awesome as Walt makes it to be.
