This section made me so mad I had to put down my iPod and stop listening to the podcast. Kc Tha Stork took the name right out of my mouth. Harriet Tubman. What would she have spent the day doing? Getting chased by dogs and massa?Being 1st Lady is difficult and stressful enough. Why not be Beyonce for a day and parlay on a yacht off the coast of France? Those 'sistas' needed their wigs snatched off....all the way to the medulla oblongata.

I will never understand the old trick of asking me a someone a question and then damning their answer. I mean damn did she say Trina? Did she say Pinky of XXX fame. Last I checked Beyonce is very successful and is in what appears to be a stable marriage. Who cares that Beyonce did not graduate. I don't see people say don't go to Wendy's because Big
Dave was a dropout, he did later go back but that is not the point. I thought the point of education was to better yourself and to secure a job. I think Beyonce has done both. Sure she is the exception to the rule, but she has made it. It is just really sad the level of hate still exist among people of color, especially women of color. I think they would have been mad if she would have said Harriett Tubman.

I don't have any problem with this whatsoever. I'm sure Mrs. Obama only meant this as a way to express her "fun" side and not necessarily someone she would like to emulate in life. That being said even if she meant Beyonce should be seen as a role model who cares she is a successful, talented and beautiful woman. A lot of young women can look up to Beyonce if they aspire to be singers and I would not have a problem with them. When you started talking about all the people that had a problem with this the only question I had was, "When the hell did Beyonce turn into a cast member of the BGC?". This is a minor issue that people want to make major to make Mrs. Obama look bad. SMDH!

Why did she have to pick a role model? They just asked her who she wanted to be for A DAY not a lifetime. Maybe Mrs. Obama would like to be half naked and shake her ass for a day! When people go on vacation they do all kinds of crazy thing they wouldn't do at home. Mrs. Obama is already at the top of the world so I think she would just want to let loose for a day!

While Michelle Obama is most definitely allowed to pick whomever she sees as a role model or "girl crush", my friends and I did a collective sigh when we heard the news....I mean, Beyonce is a great performer, but not necessarily the best singer (ala Jill Scott, Alicia Keys --- even though that ish with so and so's ex-husband is a bit trifling, Tina Turner---I mean, she is still going strong at 60+ AND teaches both financial and personal independence ala kicking Ike to tha curb, or even Mariah Carey --- ignoring her issues with Eminem and skin tight dresses).
Also, when Beyonce has given interviews (aka the one with Oprah where she mispronounces "Permits" as "Permisses"), she comes across as a dolt. Mind you, a very beautiful and talented performing dolt, but a dolt nonetheless. Really, there are plenty of other African American women who are far better role models, AND who do not reinforce negative stereotypes. Michelle could have picked someone like Mae Carol Jemison, M.D, and Stephanie D. Wilson, or Lisa P. Jackson, or Susan Rice, etc. etc. etc....

Okay so what makes Beyonce a bad role model. I am not aware of her ratchet behavior or anything that she has done that would make her a bad role model. First of all the 1st lady was in an interview and needed a quick answer. Do you know a bunch black female scientist without google?
I feel it was her question to answer and it doesn't matter what anybody else thinks. I don't think its odd for a woman with as many intellectual achievements as Ms Obama would want to step out of her comfort zone and be a famous singer and dancer.
