It's going to be all right, people. You don't wanna miss out on all the other iOS 6 features because of satellite images, do you? Apple has already proven themselves able to outdo Google at everything else, why not maps? Also, I already bought Navigon, but I'm still very interested to see what Apple can do with their outside-the-box thinking with navigation.

I was a bit worried this morning after reading some comments on various sites/blogs. I see from the image on this story, that IOS 6 is not down to the same resolution as the same screen in google. I live in the middle of a low population western Canadian province and downloaded ios 6 about 2 hours ago. I tried the turn by turn directions and they worked quite well. I also dragged the map away from the city, onto rural roads (ie. gravel between farm fields) and I was able to zoom in closer than I can on Google maps. It was more like Bing for that same area.
I'm a big google user and only just got 4s a few weeks ago, so I've just been learning what an iphone can and can not do. I don't own other Apple products other than an 8 yr old ipod.
When I searched for one of our ubiquitious Tim Hortons location, one of the newest locations did not show up on IOS 6 maps. It does show on Google. I'll be curious to see how things improve over the next few months. Apple has the cash and the ego to hopefully come close to matching Google when it comes to map data.
So far I'm happy with it.

I mean, it's not a perfect solution by any means whatsoever, but if you are reliant on the public transit Google experience, there's always the mobile web page. I feel like no one is even acknowledging that such a website exists. Remember when I didn't know about wikipedia apps and had the wikipedia site bookmarked on my home screen? No, you don't. It was a private event in my life.

I actually prefer Apple's open-market model for transportation routes. Why should we be limited to only those carriers Google deems worthy of inclusion? Or limited by Google's programming resources? Apple's model gives carriers of ANY type full control over the presentation of their information within the Apple mapping platform, and it gives me access to an open market of routing apps so I can choose or exclude them as I desire.

I live in Manhattan and Apple Maps does not yet support public transportation (i.e. subway, buses). I will probably download another copy of Google Maps (when it hits the App Store, inevitably) and use that instead.

I've been using the iOS6 Beta since it came out and I can safely say maps are a hell of a lot better now than before! I could barely run it on my 4S at first and now it's pretty smooth and everything loads relatively quickly. It has never let me down for when I need directions somewhere. Especially, on my summer vacation in Florida! Just be aware that since they rely on TomTom for there maps that some places and roads in smaller areas aren't listed but, other than that it's a breeze!

NOT UPDATING! I use maps a lot, and afterall iOS 6 is not even a huge update! So i'll be able to live on iOS 5.1.1 :)

Here in Mexico Google isn't that good. Siri in Spanish + local search and turn by turn direction will be a huge improvement.

I'll have been running ios 6 on both the iPhone 4 and iPad 2. I really like the turn-by-turn on the iPad 2 and I've found address accuracy to be on par with Google but I think some will miss the crisper sat images and street view.

Apple is going to have to step up their game and make sure their in-house Maps ends up as good or better than what they had with Google in order to sell the advantage of dropping that partnership.

Having been drawn to dangerous neighborhoods by the current inept mapping program, I am not worried. Hoping if the data is not there will prompt a request for a better address, even though the addresses I used to get the lame results were complete and real.

I've used the new iOS 6 Apple maps since the day they were released and actually find them to be just as able as the google maps previously include on iOS. In fact the inclusion of the voice guided navigation makes them much better and the old maps and well worth the upgrade, and if you live in an area with flyover the maps are incredibly detailed.

Google's own Maps app is just around the corner I'm sure, as another download.
I actually prefer Apple's Maps app at this point, I've used it quite a bit here in Colorado and I love the integration with Siri! =)
Interestingly, if you choose the British English voice for Siri - the Maps app still uses the American English voice for directions!

Its going to be fine... We all know that things inprove over time... just look back in time to google earth, that was a mess when it came out... but it being Apple, it will just take around a year to make it better then google maps... Apple improves things quickly!

It is not a bother to me. I still plan on upgrading. Besides, Apple can put out a product that is sub-par, and people will still line up a week in advance...... Mark my words, it will not matter one bit to the masses!

Well the maps fully loaded look very Cool in my phone i have iPhone 4S with iOS 6 GM and it looks better than googles :)

I'm not hesitant to upgrade, but I am disappointed if that is how Apple maps is going to look. I expect more. Will Apple let a Google Maps app in the app store, like they did YouTube?
