It's the "control" bit I'm not convinced about. I have known of relationships containing a clearly dominant partner and a clearly submissive one, in which the dominant partner never seeks to control the submissive in any way. A power differential doesn't require one partner to control the other.
It's not that I have a problem with the idea of control exchange in relationships, but it doesn't always accompany D/s.
