Does the USDA really think that an 80lb. girl in the ninth-grade has the same caloric intake requirements as a 250 lb. athletically active, senior boy?

I work at a public school and have been in education for over 30 years. Our school adopted the new guidelines a year early and it is wonderful! We have much better food and MORE KIDS ARE EATING! We had to add another lunch period to accomodate the increase. We also have less waste because we have more choices. Good variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and good quality meats and poultry. Before the meat products were overly processed and unrecognizable.

Depends on how the program will be applied at each school. If fruits and vegetables are the only thing to get, children will be healthier. If fruiys and vegetables are the only thing served, there will be a lot of waste.
