Bigger cards are better when you're going to have a hand of cards you have to sort and play sporadically. Particularly in games where it's necessary to react to the play of other cards by other players. I didn't get this impression with Viticulture. In a game where the cards are played out cyclically, smaller cards resulting in a smaller footprint are generally better, particularly if there's not a lot of text as you indicate in your update.

I voted for the smaller cards.
