If apple maps was improved and I still had access to Youtube, i'd still use iOS for sure!

It's called a street directory. Get one.

I've been using google services since the launch of the iPhone 3G. Back then google was the only email provider I was aware if that made it easy to back up your contacts and calendar info and sync it across your devices. I've always loved google's services, and further alienating them will push me over the edge to join the android ecosystem. I can always get an iPod touch to utilize the apps I've acquired if ever need be.

I hope android can run natively on my old crappy iphone 4 soon!
Michael - 12 years ago
As long as there is a Safari browser, there will always be traces of Google. If Apple removed all native apps, I would be pissed... but I would stick with iOS. If Apple somehow figured out a way to block Google web apps as well, I probably would bolt for the next version of Windows phone w/ a notification center.

Don't let poles like this get you all jerked up. There are big differences between Apple and Google, as we all know. The biggest difference between the two is their approach to customers and service. Apple is in the business of pleasing customers and providing the absolute best experience so they will purchase their products. Google is in business to sell 'user' information to its customers. That's right, Android users are not Google customers. Google's customers are businesses who are buying information about Android user shopping habits and interests.
And here is why that info is relevant; if Google Maps makes iPhone users happy, then Google Maps will be on the iPhone.
This article fails to mention some very relevant and important information. This is not all Apple trying to stick it to Google. The two companies had contracts with regards to Maps and You Tube. Both apps on iOS were stripped of the snooping and info tracking bits normally found in Google products. There were no ads on the You Tube app. Those contracts ran out. Perhaps Google was no longer content with not having access to user data on the millions of worldwide iPhones??? The new You Tube app now has ads and tracks your viewership. You can bet all of your info will be retrieved, sorted, and sold once Google gets Maps back up on iOS. But that's your choice.

i think so: as there are google apps for iOS apple could add theirs to android, i dont think i'll switch if there is some jailbreak option that would let me use google apps, or if apple offered something of the level as well, otherwise, i'll definitely switch to android :S or maybe windows phone, but this one ist more unlikely than switching to android. Anyway i hope apple dont do that.
sorry for my mistakes, i'm from argentina :P

Apple's maps app blows and they need to swallow their pride and approve the Google Maps app immediately - the crap replacement they've hoisted on us with iOS6 is utter rubbish. There is no public transportation data, no street view, inefficient turn-by-turn directions and worst of all virtually no traffic data. 3D rendered buildings serve little real-world purpose and once you get over the cool factor you're left with a stripped down broke-ass maps app that doesn't do nearly as good a job as Google Maps.
Mike - 12 years ago
I absolutely need Google Maps with Street View. I have an iMac, an iPad, an iPod, and an iPhone. I will not continue to use the iPhone without a solid Google map app. Where I live, every address in town is defined by a building name and not a number on a street. It one of the biggest cities in Asia, and Apple maps is totally unusable as it has no building names at all. No wonder there is a noticeable movement to Android here.

I think some take this more serious but personally I don't care what apple does or Google does. For me, usability and good performance is more important. I used I phone and it was great a year ago but now I am using an android phone . I read some of the comments and some are talking as if they sold their souls to companies. Just buy what works for you and don't trash talk others. I left Iphone because of their lack of customization. I am happy with what I have and I think Google has a good enough environment and it's getting better every day. It works for me now. All in all, just buy what you need and don't talk on the forums like these big companies are paying you. At the end of the day, you are the one paying a lot for their devices.

I'm so sick of this constant barrage aimed at Apple--it's obvious Eric Schmidt was disloyal to Steve Jobs when he was on Apple's board--Android is a complete rip-off, as is Samsung (like many things made in Korea) and Google is not to be trusted with user privacy. I know too much. Use another search engine!
Let Apple do what it does best, make the best hardware in both design and quality and let the buyers' numbers and satisfaction speak for themselves! Get a day job! Jet

Not a single Google app on my iPhone. No gmail email address. No spam. No Google intrusion into my personal life.

I really think Apple should buy Yahoo! or some other search engine and balance this war out. Yahoo is so crammed I would love to see Jony Ive just simplify it...oh that would make me scream Yahoo! lol
Robert - 12 years ago
I've removed all traces of Google on my iPhone. They don't have a single app that I find necessary or desirable including Search. I wouldn't use Google maps if they paid me, Apple's maps are much more useable. I stopped using Google maps due to their inaccuracy long before the press blew Apple maps issues out of proportion. Suck it, Google.

No gmail, no google search, no google voice = no iPhone

Goodbye Google! Insidious, criminal thieves! I have NO Google applications on either my iPhone or any of my Macs and all Internet searches have been switched to other search engines - the result, not one jot of difference, no problems, everything works fine and don't have trouble finding anything I want! I use Maps too - shock no problems! Turn by turn directions are excellent and using Flyover I was able to find the correct entrance to a car park in Birmingham quite easily! Goodbye Google, insidious evil parasite!
