First of all, I don't understand why AA would change their livery and uniforms just prior to a possible merger...way to make the new team members feel welcome and included! Secondly, I feel the new design is harsh...too angular. Love the colors though!

  • Christeen - 12 years ago

Not fond of the style of the flag on the tail.

  • Julia - 12 years ago

I really like the new eagle logo, but I'm not in love with the paint on the tail of the planes - is it supposed to look like a keyboard?

  • Paige - 12 years ago

Its a clean look, it was a time for change and I think AA did a good job.

  • randy - 12 years ago

cud take it or leave it...

  • Manika - 12 years ago

It is OK. Not that great.

  • Barb - 12 years ago

I love anything that might make Americans feeling better about their country. Although it's a new look, it harks me back to a time when the country was more patriotic. Hooray for the red white and blue! Strike up some John Philip Sousa music.

  • Jana - 12 years ago

I like the clean feel of the original. The new livery is too busy for my tastes. Guess I'm not excited by the changes.

  • B-Rad - 12 years ago

    way overdue!

  • Peter - 12 years ago

I agree that the new look was needed and is a step in the right direction. Hopefully this is a sign of changes to come where they really matter, and not just a shiny new skin on a mediocre apple . . .

  • Boaz H - 12 years ago

I do like it! the tail looks really good, very modern. Voted "don't love it" just because I think it could have been better over all.

  • Mandrake - 12 years ago

While I understand the need for a possible rebranding, I don't find the new design all that compelling. Not a fan of the new tail, especially given the possibility of a merger with US Airways.

  • JohnB - 12 years ago

American needed to show the world that they are changing [think of it as advertising]. They have to also show that they are changing the insides [UA has recently proved that just repainting the outsides doesn't work with frequent flyers, no matter how many times Jeff tells us that "we are gonna like it!"]

The repaint covers a relatively small surface area, saving weight and fuel costs. If AA+US merge, they will need less time and [paint + manpower] cost to reach a common fleet look.

Then this could be a bold AA strategy move. Painting the first 737-800 could send a strong signal to US that AA could go alone, and cause US to throw in more concessions during negotiations.

    Time will tell

I like that it's new and fresh. AA had a great quarter and they are heading in the right direction.

  • Ari K - 12 years ago

More style than substance. How will these look after 5 years of getting beat up in daily ops? Not sure if the money was well-spent...

  • Dawn - 12 years ago

It does what branding is supposed to do--make your product/name recognizable. No one is going to mistake that tail flag for anything other than American.

  • Cholula - 12 years ago

I like the whole thing. Fresh, striking and modern.

  • Nic - 12 years ago

Blah. I like the body color...but a flag on the tail? I think it could have been a lot more creative than just a modernized flag.

  • Srini - 12 years ago

The livery looks fresh and modern, but, I wonder if this was needed amidst bankruptcy.

  • Gerry - 12 years ago

A little shocked that in the midst of bankruptcy they find cash to rebrand and repaint their planes. I liked the old and will miss it.

  • Cory - 12 years ago

I do like the new look but don't love it. The logo looks more modern plus like the graphics on the airline tail.

  • Rich - 12 years ago

I like it, little bit of nostalgia from old AA but sleeker, more modern, fresh.

  • TerryH - 12 years ago

The eagle graphic is clever, but the tail a bit overbearing.

  • Matt W - 12 years ago

Reminds me of the old and popular bomb popicicles you could get from the ice cream truck (and I think now the grocery store). For AA's sake, they better hope they are popular rather than melt and create a patriotic looking mess

  • ashley - 12 years ago

The new logo looks like something I would see in a frat house. They might as well have rebranded the planes to say "MURICAN' AIRLINES"

  • Brian - 12 years ago

I like the classic look - it has history and tradition behind it.

  • Nigel - 12 years ago

This almost makes the USAirways planes look sophisticated by comparison.

  • Debbie - 12 years ago

Love the eagle. The tail is very recognizable and stands out.

  • Paul - 12 years ago

    Boring!

  • Thomas - 12 years ago

The new look is fresh and clean and should not show dirt to bad. Dirty looking airplanes are for the birds.

  • Thomas Vanhuss - 12 years ago

  • Jay - 12 years ago

Eh, like you, I need to wait and see

  • Ace - 12 years ago

I like it! It's kinda retro-50s, but with a 2013 flair in the 'Eagle'...:)

  • Sooner - 12 years ago

    I think it looks fine.

  • Matt h - 12 years ago

Just having a new livery isn't enough to move them into a new era. The flight staff are still surly (even in first) and they have lagged behind every other carrier in delivering refreshed cabins and services (eg wifi took a year longer than pretty much everyone else). Looking at the livery itself, I like the eagle logo but the tail is atrocious. The should have just used the one image on the tail.

  • Cyclotron - 12 years ago

It is a a welcome change. The old logo was beginning to look dated. THis has a much more modern and sleek look.

  • Devorah - 12 years ago

I think it's gonna have to grow on me.

  • janejanejane - 12 years ago

I think it looks sleek, clean and modern. The font to me looks friendly and inviting. It's patriotic and it makes me feel like they're an airline that knows what they're doing, despite their bankruptcy filing. Looking forward to more changes they have lined up.

  • Gail - 12 years ago

Guess I don't like change although I see why they couldn't keep the old look. And I agree that the INSIDE is way more important than the outside.

  • Uri - 12 years ago

Why bother with a new logo if you are going to be merged anyway? The new bosses may not like it enough to give up their own, and it is not as if it's that great or original.

  • Kayvan - 12 years ago

I love it! I think it's time for a revamp and an updated new look.

  • jetsetr - 12 years ago

I like the new font for "American", but the new Eagle logo reminds me of Greyhound busses, and the tail, while certainly patriotic, seems a bit over the top and lacking originality. Though, sadly, it could mesh well in the event of an unfortunate merger with US...

  • Big D - 12 years ago

    It's growing on me?

  • Stuart Falk - 12 years ago

I'm disappointed that the designers seemed more interested in continuity than in rebranding, but there needs to be a single livery, not one for painted and another for unpainted aircraft,

  • Aleks K. - 12 years ago

I sorta like the stylized A/eagle after looking at it for a bit and big/bold "American" across the fuselage. I don't like the tail at all -- why not put the actual logo there?

  • Elena G - 12 years ago

    Very patriotic! :)

  • DrewBird - 12 years ago

Looks sharp and refreshing. Forward-looking,rather than a reminder of the turbulent past. Hope there is not a merger so we continue to see it!

  • matt s - 12 years ago

I like it a lot. There is nothing wrong with change, even for long-term brands.

  • Eddy - 12 years ago

I'm a fan of the logo and the overall look is modern. But the tail seems a bit ... gaudy.

  • Ron - 12 years ago

I like American's new look a lot. I hope it symbolizes the airline's fresh start and really hope that they remain an independent entity.
