Numerical codes used in extracting science results from data should always be made freely available

I personally usually make my codes publicly available, but that is not always a simple question. A code being public is often only useful with proper user manual and support, which most of us would have no time to provide. Also, some simulations require large computing resources, which might be somewhat difficult to line up just to check someone else's results.
